This place only used to be open by appointment, which was a pain. Luckily now it is open to the public, and during convenient hours. The prices are practically wholesale, even though you are only buying in singles. A great variety of uniforms, although the selection of medical scrubs stands out. Every color or print that you can think of is here for any style or look you want to achieve. Parking is horrible so you may have to drive around a bit. Other than that, a great place to shop for uniforms.
The Twenty Grand is nothing special- a couple of pool tables and dart boards, a few cheap televisions. But the drink specials are good and last all night sometimes, and the staff and patrons are all friendly. The place just has a really nice laid-back feel to it that not all bars and neighborhood watering holes have these days. Go to Jim's right next door after for midnight post-drinking munchies.
I purchased a drum kit here for a Christmas gift and had no real clue what I was looking for. THe sales reps were so good in handling my very basic questions about things and in finding me just the right drum kit for my brother, who was already an intermediate player from his lessons at school. They even found one that was on open box so they could give me a discount. So helpful, and a great deal to boot!
Yes, the owner is a little kooky. He will forever sit there and tell you stories, if you let him. The trick is to just browse on your own and don't ask for help u nless you need it. You will be rewarded with a small but well-supplied store full of imported liquors. The liquer section is particularly good, as is the gift boxed liquor area. In fact, they have gift sets year round, not just at the holidays, making this an even better place to shop.
Though I wouldn't go see a romantic comedy at the IMAX (Since it is a little more expensive than a regular movie theater), I would go see quite a few here. Movies like King Kong that are action and adventure look particularly good on the gigantic screen. The place is always clean and the movies start on time as well. Overall a great experience, especially for small kids who will flip out over it.
This place is a halloween paradise, even though you can do much more than just halloween. You want a Santa or Easter Bunny costume? Find it here. THey have an excellent selection for rent or to buy. THe rentals are well groomed and clean, you will never feel like it is a rental. There is also a great selection of props, wigs, makeup and clothes to make your own costume or mix and match for fun.
Not only will Freindze sell you any and all beads known to man, they will give you ideas on new creations. They are also good with the tax forms, in case you are buying to resell as part of a crafting project or business. They also have things liek handbags, hats and even shoes that are all hand-crafted so you can either buy to wear to get an idea for your own creations. You can buy in wholesale too.
I take my nephews to story time here whenver I can and they absolutely love it. They always want to buy a book, which I love because I want to encourage them to read. There are no real discounts, but that is to be expected from such a small neighborhood place. Speaking of smalll, make sure that you get there early for story time, as it can get crowded in a hurry.
If you are an art buff, you will be impressed with the McNay. I know I particularly loved the Picassos and other paintings. But what I was most impressed with is the house itself. It's a gorgous Spanish-style house with a courtyard where peacocks run wild and a huge tiled fountain. It looks like something out of a dream. Get a membership and get invited to members-only events that are beyond compare.
The HEB science treehouse that is on the property of the witte is enough reason for me to take the trek down to Broadway to the Witte. Admission is usually free at least one day a week, making this a bargain for kids of all reason. There is also a more adult-oriented area that showcases the history of the area, but you don't have to stick to that- the treehouse is fun even for adults like myself and I find myself wanting to go there for that more than anything.
