My children and I have seen Hubie's performances several times over the last couple of years and we've all enjoyed them. He definitely mesmerizes the children while entertaining the adults as well. He is very warm and personable and puts on a great magic show. Of all of the local children's entertainers, he's the best, in my opinion.
Star Performance Dance Academy provides excellent instruction in a warm environment. I've been pleased with the instructor and with the variety of classes that she offers, including acro, ballet, lyrical and liturgical dance, just to name a few. In fact, she's one of the few in the area that even offers liturgical dance. The facilities are pretty new and the academy is located in a strip mall with plenty of parking. This year she expanded and added another room to accomodate more students. Their price plan is on par with other dance schools in the area.
Superpetz has a wide selection of pet foods and accessories and a nice selection of small pets like hamsters, fish, bunnies, ferrets, guinea pigs and birds. They also have a grooming center in the store as well that I've used several times and with which I've been very pleased. Recently I was looking for a particular collar to help me train my dog how to walk on a leash and I knew that I could count on Superpetz to carry it since they carry such a wide variety of specialty items. Not only did they have it, but I was able to take my dog into the store and try it on her as well to make sure I chose one that fit properly and that would meet my needs. The associate even invited me to walk my dog around the store with it before I purchased it.
The Logan Valley Mall offers stores to meet the needs of just about everybody. Their large department stores include JC Penney, Sears and Kauffmann's, in addition to many other well-known chains like Gymboree, Hallmark, and Things Remembered, just to name a few. They also offer services, like a stroller rental, and products like mall gift certificates which help make their customers' shopping experiences much more pleasant as well. There is plenty of parking and they even have special parking places designated for the use of mothers of new babies which I've appreciated in the past. The mall, including their restrooms, always seems to be neat and clean as well.
Dollar General in Northern Cambria carries a wide selection of items from cleaning products, to clothing, to paper goods, toys, food and more. The store is fairly clean and there's plenty of parking. They carry both name brand products and off brands and their pricing seems to be pretty fair. It's definitely a good place to get good prices on items like cleaners and paper and plastic products. However, some of their items, like their toys, are definitely not nice quality and I choose to buy those elsewhere.
Bickels Surplus in Duncansville carries a variety of suplus items. While you might find some bargains on diapers, health and beauty items, etc. the store is small so the selection isn't near as large as that found in the other Bickels stores. Many of the items are in damaged and/or opened packages. I've noticed lately that some of their pricing seems to be a bit high for a surplus store and I've found several of the items that they carry at mass merchants in new and undamaged condition at the same price. However, if you search you can definitely find some bargains there.
I went to Gentle Family Dentistry a couple of times and though I found the staff to be friendly and warm, I didn't get quite the same feeling from the dentist. In fact, the one time I had to take my young children with me and they sat quietly in the room while I was having my work done. Once they both stood up from their little chairs though they did not move from that spot right in front of their seats and he told them, very sternly in a tone that I didn't appreciate, to sit back down. I was not at all pleased with that and decided right then that I definitely would not be taking my children to him. To me, he was ok but not overly personable, which is important to me since I absolutely detest having dental work done to begin with. Another drawback is that he did not offer any discount for customers who are not insured which I've heard that some other local dentists do and then once I did have coverage, he did not accept my insurance.
I'm not overly fond of Giant Eagle. To me, their prices seem rather high as compared with Walmart. I'm also not happy that they don't accept internet coupons. I do like that they have a pharmacy staffed with helpful people there and I like the cakes they make in their bakery. However for the most part, I find their prices to be too high although occasionally they do have a few good sales.
Gabriel Brothers carries a wide selection of name brand clothing, shoes, housewares and more. The serious, dedicated shopper can find awesome bargains at Gabriel's but it oftentimes takes a lot of patience as many of their clothes are flawed or otherwise irregular. Their inventory changes rather quickly with new styles arriving constantly. I've found many really fantastic deals there on name brand clothing for the entire family but it's very hit or miss. While I personally enjoy shopping at Gabe's and I've found terrific deals there, I chose to only rate it a three star store mainly because I know hunting through clothes to find an unflawed shirt or pair of pants is not everyone's cup of tea. For the bargain hunter who doesn't mind investing some time in searching through the racks of clothes though, Gabriel's can be an excellent place to find great deals on brand name clothing, shoes, etc.
Barbara's Hallmark offers a fantastic selection of cards, gifts, candles, totes/purses and more. The store is nicely lit, neat and staffed with friendly associates and parking is plentiful and convenient. The prices are typical and average for this type of store. I've also gotten occasional coupons from them too which is always a plus.
