Giant Food
Though not in a great neighborhood, this is the closest large supermarket to northern cahrles village. this is a quite new, large, clean grocery store that I have been quite pleased with the several times I have visited. Prices are reasonable, fresh foods excellent.
Fed Ex Kinko's Office & Print
I guess they do good copy work according to teh other reviewer, but I went in to buy a simple bubble mailer envelope and it took forever to get any service and for them to ring me up. It's also a small franchise and very dark.
Wal-Mart Supercenter
Sure, you're feeding the corporate monster, the place is packed with people yapping in the aisles, and you can't get decent produce in the supermarket section. But all those miscellaneous items that you don't care tremendously about the quality of are so cheap and all in one place.
Lowe's
Lowe's really does have pretty much whatever you might need for any home improvement or handy-man task. I find Lowes to be cleaner and more inviting to the non-contractors among us versus Home Depot.
Target
Can't complain at all about this Target. It isn't one of the huge ones, but it is bright, clean, good prices and friendly staff. And more convenient to the William & Mary campus for students too.
Soaps-N-Suds
Well this place certainly doesn't attract the upper-crust of Williamsburg society. Regardless, it is big, bright, and clean, you can usually get washers and dryers without a problem and prices are reasonable. Can't ask for more than that.
Wythe Candy & Gourmet Shop
Step inside and breathe in, is this what heaven is like? From the candy apples made in front of you, to fudge and every other kind of candy imaginable, stop by and enjoy this classic confectionary shop.
Williams-Sonoma
This store has incredible kitchen stuff, no disputing that. But if my fiancee and I registered there, we'd be washing dishes after every meal because we'd be lucky to get 2 of everything. Do as we do, window shop and browse to get a feel for what you like, then head elsewhere.
Toymaker Of Williamsburg
In the heart of Colonial Williamsburg/Merchant Square is this cute little toy store that caters perfectly to the yuppy suburbanites with money who visit (see also the brand new Williams Sonoma and Talbots...). A nice selection of modern, educational, and classic toys at outrageous prices.
Cheese Shop
Then you must eat lunch at the Cheese Shop and rave about it. yes, the sandwiches and other food and wine is good, and the bread ends (ie, crusts) and house (not mayo, not mustard, but a million times better) could sustain a poor college student for months. But, prices are high for a small sandwich, and it takes at least 45 minutes to get lunch due to their insanely silly order/pickup/cashier system.
