Pistachios is a small but cute gift shop/gallery that specializes in jewelry, house decorations, and other miscellaneous objects. Many of the goods are hand made and unusual, and much of it is pretty expensive. For some reason I don't get a really good vibe from this store, when I am usually eager to peek into fun little gallery shops, but it's worth a stop if you are interested in this kind of product.
Compass Rose Horizons is a small local business offering editing and proofreading services to anyone with any need related to editing. If you are a business person preparing memos or a student writing papers, Compass Rose can help for a fee. The non-profit organization also publishes a variety of works and specializes in the genres of history and mythology.
Helen Yi is a very sophisticated and hip little spot in Wicker Park and offers some really nice lines of clothing. However, the prices here are pretty outrageous considering I didn't see any recognizable designers' names. I was slightly afraid to touch some of the clothes, as they really are beautiful and worth a small down payment on a house.
Daffodil Hill is definately a store for the ladies. It smells nice, is very pink, and boasts a small yet solid display of trendy clothes and accessories. Located in Wicker Park, which is witnessing a boom in the boutique business, Daffodil Hill fits right in for those who want to browse through racks of hip clothes that could be found on the pages of Lucky Magazine.
Garfield Park Conservatory is one of the largest indoor gardens (under glass), and it hosts quite a variety of plants in a humid, sunny, yet shielded environment. Besides general viewing, the conservatory hosts quite a few festivals, markets, and educational programs (often geared toward kids). I went when they were hosting a chocolate festival, and they have many other programs of interest.
My boyfriend went to see Dr. Rachel Cohn at this Dentists' office, and he was very pleased with the service. Their office is located in the Board of Trade building, so it is very convenient for someone who works in the area. Getting an appointment was relatively easy, and the dentist was helpful in recommending other related services, such as an orthodontist.
Green City Market is a fabulous farmer's market that takes place from May to October in the southern corner of Lincoln Park, Wednesdays and Saturdays. All of the booths host local organic farmers selling a variety of fresh produce, dairy products, and baked goods. There are often musicians and even some prepared food stands for a tasty and enjoyable outdoor lunch.
Epoch is a very upscale florist that presents very stunning arrangements for your home or special occasion. The store is a sight to see, with minimalist decoration and sensual displays appealing to the eyes and nose. Besides flowers, Epoch sells fancy candles, scents, and fine vases. There is even a little garden in the back of the store. A visit to Epoch is very pleasing to the senses!
I absolutely adore unique kitchen finds, and Posh is just perfect to satisfy my passion! Posh offers a variety of vintage, antique, and international kitchen goods including dishware, glassware, and unusual utensials or contraptions to be used in the kitchen. The prices are about right: a little steep but not too bad considering many of these items are antiques. Posh is a very charming and unique store.
Equinox is a newly opened store that sells a variety of objects including furniture, home accessories (candles, frames, lamps, etc.), jewelry, and random decorations. Nothing in the store is junky, but nothing is at a staggering price. The space is pretty large, so there is lots to look through, and it is light and airy, so it is enjoyable to shop here.
