Very poorly run establishment that often loses clothing or improperly launders items to the point of ruin. The hardest part about my bad experience with Broadway was the complete lack of care the "manager" had for my laundry, treating the situation as an "act of god" and not somebodys poor attention to the job. Prices were cheap but definietly not worth the hassle and inconvenience of rust stains, rips, or completly vanished garments. Avoid at all costs
Broadway Bank is a small local bank that has slowly been adding satelite locations in other parts of the chicagoland area. They service a variety of needs ranging from checking/savings to home loan and refinancing. They especially cater to the diverse neighborhood of Uptown, having teller trained in many different languages. Though they do not offer currency exchange, they are a great source of help to new immigrants unfamilar with US banking practices. They've also been around for a long time- says something good!
This is one wild place to look for great vintage antiques. The store has been featured on HG TV and various other lifestyle programs for being reknowned in their selection of hard to find accent pieces, lamps, furniture, and vintage art. You will find prices at this antique market to be high but this is no different from any other specialty dealers. The layout is beautiful and you will certainly feel nostalgic (if old enough) for the olden days
A very modern bookstore that specializes in current issues, feminist literature, gay and lesbian studies, and politics- not to mention tons of other subject areas. A very trendy place that often has movie showing at night and comfy seating for people to come in and read or relax and chat. The staff are very cool people also, often the owner if working and be chatted up very easily. Conveniently located next to a great coffee shop and lots of other shopping...has a small pakring lot next door to it, mostly street parking though
The best source of used textbooks for loyola students anywhere in the city! They always offer the best prices and compete highly with on-campus booksellers in their buy-back prices. You can find lots of school supplies and Loyola gear here too not to mention that have a very cool cafe with a great atmosphere that loyola students always enjoy hanging out at . The staff are a very cool group and always seem to be around to answer any questions. Seems to a great place to work and to shop at!
A great local establishment, a real hometown brew of a bookstore that carrys plenty of selection with decent pricing, not enough to compete with the big boys though. You can always find plenty of affluent types at this store as it a see and be seen sort of establishment. I have always enjoyed the great friendly atmosphere and their huge rare book collection which is the best ive seen in the midwest. You can get gift certificates, the accept all credit cards, and are open fairly late on weekend nights.
Waveland leaves something to be desired, its a very typical smokey bowling alley with plenty of regulars to keep the joint jumping. I would have to advise against the neighborhood though--be careful at night or even at day, travel at own risk. Prices are very cheap, league nights are infrequent, and they rent decent shoes... not the decaying pairs that litler some other establishments. Ball assortment is also good, lots of choice and all are always clean. Automatic scoring too- which is new to the alley.
What and amazing shop! I could not possibly reccomend this joint any more! They have a HUGE selection of used and barely used book all at GREAT prices, well organized, and a diverse selection. Its an extremly cozy and clean store, the kind of place you might want to spend the whole afternoon at. They also do buying of books, so bring in those old books lying around and either get cash or store credit. I am always impressed at the quality of the merchandise and at the overall cool atmosphere! A must see in Rogers Park!
very bad experience with Hair Force- having a stylist who appeared not at all to be trained correctly, leaving my hair uneven and all around improper. I would no less trust them for a cut than I would trust them for a color or anything else more complicated. I had problems with management when trying to get a refund. Very difficult and rude people working there! Have told all my friends to avoid, any place at all is better. Prices were normal but not worth the risk of ruining your hair for.
An interesting hole in the wall, a very italian sort of shop with old fashioned men who shave and cut with a certain precison lacking in other shops. Pretty much you're gonig to be hard pressed to get much style out of this place unless you're needing a very basic male haircut like a buzz or trim. The guys who cut tend to have their own idea of your hair style so be weary. offers a great classic hot lather shave, best in town! Pricing is average ~11.00 cut, shaves a little less. Check it out!
