While the exterior of these apartments isn't bad, what goes on behind closed doors, isn't so good. Parkside Apartments offers decent housing for the financially challenged. These houses are rent controlled and often the residents reflect just that. There is a lot of riff raff that runs around, and this isn't a place I would want to be after dark. I suppose it is better than the other low income housing in the area, but personally if this was my only choice, I would look elsewhere.
Pontoon Plaza apartments are a terrific set of apartments for our towns "seniors' This is quiet, and neatly maintained set of rent controlled apartments, that have a very homey feel. My friends mother is a resident there, and loves the freedom of living in her apartment, but having a retirement type village of other seniors around here. The staff keeps an eye on the residents, and it's a very safe environment for these folks. I know there is a waiting list, so if you are looking to get your loved one in, put your name on the list, it's worth the wait.
The City and building inspectors office of Granite City is a joke. There is a fair amount of politics going on in this office, and it is clouding the judgment of those doing the inspecting. I personally know of three homes that NEVER should have passed, but people know people, and last names talk in this town. It's not exactly fair for those that truly want to have an honest inspection. You don't know if you are getting that, or if someone happens to know someone in the office.
I had a friend live in these apartments for years. My home was not far from them. I will say these are the cleanest apartments/townhomes I have ever been in. Really a class act. They are well cared for, clean, and offer many home type amenities. They have community washer and dryers, and a community swimming pool. I was pleasantly surprised at the residents that lived there. This was in a quiet neighborhood, and didn't seem like it was apartment type living. The insides of these are a good size, and would work for anyone with a small family.
I went to Cecena's Jewelry, because of the word of mouth reputation they had. I will say, they did not disappoint. I took in a loose diamond, and had them design a setting for a pendant. I told them what I was after, and they drew the design on paper for me while I was there. When I received the piece, it was exactly has they had described. Not only was it perfect, I was shocked at the price. They charged me far less than I was expecting for an original design piece. They are a family owned business, that obviously has good family values. I would recommend Cecena's to anyone I know!
This is the way a law firm should be! This is a relaxed environment, no stuffy shirts, no fluff. These gentleman are a class act. They talk to you like you are human, and not some nimwit off the street. Family guys=family law.
I used attorney Joseph Hill for a simple Will for my husband and I. I will say I was pleased with the job that was done. What I was not pleased with was the run around I felt I got from his office. I was also displeased at the fact that it was TWICE the amount that I was originally told over the phone. When I asked I was told that the price quote was simply a guideline. While that may have been true, I feel that it was a copout for some bad information.
While you don't get a warm fuzzy feeling when walking in
Hudson Jewelers, you do see some nice jewelry pieces. The store is adequately stocked with a variety of mid to over priced bridal sets, along with other token pieces. They offer a nice selection of gift items, to include clocks and figurines. It is soft on the eyes, and the fountain draws you in. They do offer some select pieces that they create, and have a license on. Very unique, yet ordinary.
Bailey Banks & Biddle Jewelers is the upper cut to all jewelry stores. They offer a huge selection of high end, yet stunning jewelry. Not only do they carry beautiful diamonds, they also carry a large selection of Lladro figurines. This isn't a mall type jewelry store, this is "the" only jewlery store.
Don't let the exterior of Mallos fool you. Inside you will find some of the tatiest cakes and cookies around. Tucked away in a strip mall, you might easily pass it up. That is if you go by when they don't have the oven on. If they are baking, you can smell the donuts and yeast from the street. The selection isn't huge, but what it lacks in variety, it makes up for in taste.
