This is probably our all time favorite Mexican food place. And believe me, we've been to alot of them!! They offer an extensive menu and the food is always very good. Its very clean inside, too. It is rather small but that's OK since most people get it for take out. And if you call in the order ahead of time and its for over $20, you get free chips and bean dip.
My son's truck needed a water pump and a friend reccommended Ward's, so we thought we'd give them a try. The truck was fixed within hours and they were reasonable with their fees. Then my car needed a 60,000 mile service. The dealership wanted $600, another local place wanted $565, but Ward's did it for $365. They went through my warranty/maintenance book and made sure that they performed everything Ford required. And they got it done quickly, and came and got me at home so I could get my car back car right away!
This little roadside stand has become a very popular stopping point for the truckers that roll down Highway 4 through Oakley. The reason is that you get huge burritos for about $4! From the time this place opens in the morning, until they close at night, they are packed with customers. It is located in a rather large shopping center so there is lots of parking available. They have quite a bit of space with benches so you can sit outside to eat your food. They also keep this area very clean, going out to hose it down several times a day. The menu is more authentic Mexican food, so if its Taco Bell you're craving--then go to Taco Bell.
Thank goodness I have only had to use the services at Brentwood Auto Body 3 times, but each time was a very good experience. They work wonders with crumpled metal! Each time I have needed them, my car came out looking like brand new. The paint is guaranteed for as long as you own the car, and they even cleaned my car on the inside, too! The ladies in the office are very friendly and they understand you may be feeling a little "anxious" after a car wreck. Also, when they say the car will be done on Thursday at 3:00, you can bet it will be done on Thursday at 3:00. Brentwood Auto Body is the only body shop we will consider.
Normally, we buy Straw Hat pizza, but I had a coupon for Mountain Mike's and it is very close to my home so we decided to try it. I called in an order to go and went to pick it up. When I walked in, I was hit with the most pungent odor of sour milk! It was awful! There was nobody in the place so I kept looking around trying to figure out where it was coming from and wondering why nobody else was acting like they could smell anything! Finally, I spotted it. On a table in the corner, someone had left a diaper bag. I don't know how long it had been there to make the entire restaraunt smell bad, but it was terrible! Thank God the pizza was OK. And it was just OK. Nothing to get excited about ,or want to go back for.
We joined the Y a few weeks ago and have been enjoying it very much. A Family membership is only $57 per month which is a great bargain since I have 2 teenage boys that are starting to lift weights. For the time being, the Y is housed in temporary buildings on O'Hara Ave, but when they get all the construction done there will be a swimming pool too (hopefully by next summer). All of the employees are very friendly. There is a cardio room with treadmills, elipticals and bikes. Some of the cardio equipment have TVs with cable, you just need to bring headphones. Then there is the weight room with free weights and a computerized FitLinxx system. Many free classes are offered during the day and evenings. Free childcare while you workout is also available. The entire facility is air conditioned, too. I'm assuming when the permanent buildings are finished there will be even more equipment available. Sometimes there is a wait for machines if you go when they are busy.
I should have known when I walked past the Baja Fresh next door and they were crowded then walked into Pick Up Stix and there was only one family dining on a warm Sunday afternoon. But what the heck, you never know how a new place is unless you try it, right? Well, this family won't be back! We ordered the Family Pack for $24.99 to go. One of the choices was House Chicken, which sounded good since the desciption on the menu says "a carmelized sauce of white wine, garlic and soy". What sauce? We got a rather small container of these tiny shreds of something that looked like it had been deep fried,. Actually, we really weren't sure if it was chicken or not. There was no taste and it was greasy. We also ordered Orange Peel Chicken and it was just OK. In fact, the only thing the kids liked (and my kids LOVE chinese food) was the Apple Cinnamon Egg Rolls. The serving containers were quite small and it took about 20 minutes to get our order. Next time we want fast Chinese Food, we'll go to Panda Express.
My son will be attending SFSU this fall and one of the books on his list was offered at Barnes and Noble. I decided to just run up to the store to pick it up so I wouldn't have to pay for shipping. When I got there, the book was out of stock but the clerk special ordered it for me and it should arrive in about a week. I really like this store because it has a Starbucks Cafe inside. It also provides lots of comfy sofas and chairs to sit in and read. Every time I have gone there the employees are very friendly and helpful.
Dr. Esterkyn was our orthodontist for years. I have three kids and they were all seen by Dr. Esterkyn. Our youngest had a particular challenging problem but it was no proble for Dr. Esterkyn! All the staff are very friendly and none of my kids were ever hurt from any procedure. I would highly recommend Dr. Esterkyn to anyone in our area that is looking for an orthodontist.
This restaurant is just OK. I have been there five times now over the years and just wasn't WOWed. I have ordered different menu items, from a cheeseburger to chicken cordon bleu to prime rib and I never thought it was that good. It's not something I can really put my finger on, it seems like the food is frozen like the kind you would get at Costco. There's not alot of flavor in the food, like no spices were used. Everything seems like its dried out. Maybe its sitting on a steam table in the kitchen or something.
