All That Glitters
I've always passed by this store on my way to Burlingame Ave. without ever going in. The reason is because I always thought it would be expensive because it LOOKS expensive (you should check out the themed displays they have in the windows!). Well, last summer, my friend had a 'princess' themed birthday party, where every guest had to wear a crown. Because it was short notice, I decided to check out All that Glitters because it was nearby and I didn't have enough time to drive anywhere. THE LADY WHO WORKS THERE IS SO SO NICE. She is probably one of the nicest sales people I've ever talked to. She's the owner (I'm pretty sure) and loves her customers. She also knows her stuff (jewelry and all that glitters :) She even told me to bring pictures of the birthday party for her to see. I found a GORGEOUS crown for only $9! I'm definitely planning on coming here again!
William C. Ho, DDS
This is probably one of the funnest experiences I've had at a dentist's office (if that makes any sense). When I got my cavity filled, they let me watch DVD's! They call it their "virtual DVD entertainment system". That's what it is. They ask you what genre of movie you want, and then they hand you a little contraption that looks like thick 3-D glasses, and you lean back on the dentist's chair and watch the movie. I chose Meet the Parents, and I couldn't even feel anything throughout my filling. It was kind of weird laughing at the movie while getting my teeth worked on (I almost bit the dentist :)...Anyways, they make going to the dentist really fun (they let you see little video clips of how to floss correctly, of the start of gingivitis, etc...). I loved having them as my dentists.
Kickers Soccer Shop
This store has everything I could possibly need for my soccer needs. They have really comfy, durable cleats (although I've found better prices elsewhere) with brand names (Adidas, Nike, Puma, etc...). One of my favorite things that they have are the warm up suits. I can't live without my Adidas track suit! They also have really cute sports bags and other stuff to help you on the field. So, if you're a true soccer player, and are looking for some new equipment to better your game, come here!
U K Hair
I've been looking for hair salons that braid cornrows for some time now (I even posted a question about it on judysbook), and I found a place. My friend who usually braids my hair is away on vacation, so I needed an alternate to keep my hair tight and away from my face during this hot summer. I just happened to find a girl at UK Salon who just happens to know how to do traditional cornrows. They're pretty expensive, but it's what I wanted (she coudn't have done it better). It cost $7 per braid (in Frisco, they do it for less, but I live far away from there :(. But she straightened the bottom and made it all pretty. I would recommend this hair salon (they have really good reviews!) to anybody who wants a new hair style/color/whatever. Enjoy! ;)
Cathy Jean Shoes
I remember a couple of years ago, EVERY girl in every middle school and high school in California was buying Cathy Jean's platform white sneakers (now they also have them in black, red, and pink leather or canvas). It was crazy. During the holidays, they'd be literally PACKED with teenage girls trying to try on and buy those thick sneakers. Of course, they always sold out. Now, everybody wants Cathy Jean flip flops. I think their flip flops are really cute, but still not worth the price. They have some nice stuff, but a lot of it is really tacky to me. It's just a fad.
La Baguette
Whenever I go to Stanford Shopping Center, I can't leave without picking up something from La Baguette, one of my favorite bakeries of all time. When you walk in, (if you can fit with all those people crowded trying to get their order) you can smell the delicious smells of bread, coffee, and pastries baking. I LOVE their eclairs, TARTS, and bread. They have delicious mille feuille (a custard cake), and all kinds of other delcacies. If you're a fan of baking goods, you've GOT to get in here, and get your food. It's SO GOOD.
All Fired Up
I've been to this place one time, and enjoyed it tremendously. It's located to the left of Starbucks (not directly to the left), off of Burlingame Avenue. When I went, I paid only $20 (if I remember correctly) to paint a mug and the whole shebang (they also have LOTS of other things you can paint). I unfortunately made the mistake of not writing my name on my "piece of art". When I was there, there were MANY birthday parties (of all ages), so that might be a fun thing to do for a birthday. I'm defintely planning on going here again - it's really relaxing.
Steelhead Brewery Company
Ever since I was a little girl, I would beg my parents to take me to this restaurant. I LOVED it, and I still do. They have quality food and service and are getting better by the day. My favorite stuff they have is the calamari, quasedillas (chicken or shrimp), and their STEAK. Their steak is so darn good, and they cook it just how I like it. They probably also have some of the best grilled burgers in Burlingame. They also have great staff. Every year when we go on somebody's birthday, they'll bring in a complimentary "birthday dessert" with candles and everything, and everybody helps you celebrate your special day. It's a great family place.
Il Fornaio
I mostly like the bakery part of this restaurant, because I'm a big bread fan and I have the biggest sweet tooth you'll ever see (if that made any sense :}. Anyways, if you love baguettes, this is the place to get some nice, hot ones. They're not like the ordinary supermarket ones. These ones TASTE like baguettes. Their tarts are also DELICIOUS (the crust is unbelievable. try the pear tarts). In the restaurant section, I'll have to go back there and see if my opinion changes, because the last time I went I didn't really like my food (which is surprising becaue I love Italian food). They have really disgusting polenta (at least the one tried was). But it's not the worst place to choose. It's very good. (great service too)
Great Steak
The only food I ever buy at the food court anymore (when I can find it) is at the Great Steak and Potato Company. Try their "everything steak sandwich" with the cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, shredded steak, etc...(all melted! how much better can food get?). I have to say they have some of the BEST sandwiches I've ever tasted in my life. And I'm not exaggerating either. Plus, their fries are SO delicious, and you don't feel any grease at the top of your mouth like with Burger King or McDonald's. This place is THE BEST.
