Urban Outfitters is a fun store. It's the perfect place to go to pick up random, funny birthday gifts and home accessories. The clothes are great, and they feature many brands. Thd big problem with Urban Outfitters, besides the fact that it's a bit overpriced, is that your "unique" t-shirt will be seen on everyone around town. This particular store at 361 Newbury is good because it's large and has a bigger selection of sizes and clothing. Most importantly, it has a large section for housewares and fun gifts, so you may actually find something great here that you couldn't find at another Urban Outfitters. Plus, this store is in a great location- right outside of Hynes.
This store came highly recommended. Maybe my expectations were too high but I left this store a bit disappointed, and with no purchases. Bowl & Board sells some furniture, accessories for the bed, bath and kitchen. The furniture is not unique enough to justify the prices, and neither are the accessories. The store itself is very cramped and the staff was indifferent.
Economy Hardware is really a misnomer. The store is lovely, and offers not only hardware but cute furniture and home accessories, but it is not cheap. They do have sales, and at these you may find very good bargains. The salespeople are friendly and knowledgeable. They have a great selection of candles and fun shower curtains. But if you're looking for a deal, I suggest looking elsewhere.
PROS: Nice stuff
The Lenox Hotel has absolutely beautiful rooms. Though the hotel itself is expensive, there are various discounts available. I've stayed here several times and really have no complaints. The beds are comfy and the bathrooms feature Aveda products. The service is fabulous, and there's a friendly Irish gentleman named Pat, I believe, who can offer you great advice about the city. The Lenox is a stone's throw from the T, and it's located right in the heart of Boston.
Relax the Back offers many wonderfully comfortable chairs. I know these chairs are comfortable because I've sat in all of them! I've often wanted to buy one, but they're all extremely expensive. I would recommend this store for someone who has serious back problems, or someone who simply has a great deal of cash. The servicepeople are friendly and indulgent.
PROS: Blissfully Comfortable
Dellaria generally offers lower-priced services than other salons, but recently their prices have gone up. They're still, however, lower than at many salons. And the first time I went to this Dellaria I walked out with beautiful highlights. When I went back a second time I walked out with darker hair than I went in with. This is ridiculous because they keep the colors on file. In addition to this, my second-time stylist pulled my hair so much that my scalp was red and irritated AND she got shampoo in my eye. I can't offer an opinion on the whole chain, but this particular salon left me greatly disappointed.
PROS: lower prices than at other salons, walk-ins welcome
CONS: You may leave with a terrible dye job and irritated scalp
The Brookline Booksmith is only a five minute drive from Fenway Park. The store does not have a large selection of books, but it does have a nice collection of used books at low prices. You can also sell your old books here and receive a little money. As for new books, they have sales on "new in paperback" and such. If you're looking for a popular book at a fair price, you may very well find it here. Additionally, the store sells mugs, journals, cards and other fun accessories. Even if you're not into books, this may be a great place to visit if you're looking for a funny mug or journal for a friend.
This shop is devoted entirely to selling its customers the best tea around. Timeless Teas gets it tea directly from Sri Lanka, with shipments coming in by boat. The owner personally visits Sri Lanka to check on his wares. I know this because on my first visit here the owner was kind enough to give me a full tour of the tea showroom, complete with an unbiased review of all his teas. Occasionally they have tastings, but the customer can always expect one-on-one attention may smell the various types of teas. What's even better, the tea is very fairly priced. And it's absolutely delicious. I wouldn't go anywhere else to buy tea. The store also sells various tea pots, presses and accessories. Timeless teas is a truly unique and wonderful shop, and the staff is top-notch.
PROS: Excellent tea, wonderful service, fair prices
I want to love this store. It's so cute. They sell soap by weight, and the whole store's set up to look like a bakery. It smells like an absolute dream, and the ingredients are all natural! But that's the problem: the all natural stuff just doesn't work. Shampoo, conditioner, special cleansers, they just don't do what they promised. And the stuff doesn't come cheap. But the bath bombs make a great, fizzy gift, and the soaps smell great.
A good friend of mine always has the cutest, most whimsical jewelry. Whenever anyone asks her where she got it, the answer, inevitably, is "Taiwan." When we walked past So Good Jewelry she stopped and said "that's the kind of jewelry I can get in Taiwan!" So Good is jam-packed with glitzy, girly, fun and cheap jewelry. If you're looking for a crazy pair of earrings or a funky necklace, look no further.
PROS: Fun and girly!
CONS: The jewelry isn't top quality
