Its About Time Jewelry Watch & Clock Service Inc.
I got my watch battery replaced in under 5 minutes here for under $10. They really hoped right to it as soon as I walked in the door and were ready to help with a smile. I would get my watch battery replaced here again and again. Plus it's nice to patronize a local business that does such a nice service.
PROS: nice people
CONS: none, really
Family Fun Ctr/bullwinkle's
Ive never been one for kiddy golfespecially not at these prices! I was disappointed by the low quality food and the expectation that it would be so great. Its just another kind of dingy place that sells the idea of excitement very well, but doesnt deliver. However, I am an old fart, so younger people may find it more appealing.
PROS: kids are entertained
CONS: lame
Title Wave Used Books
We go there after swimming lessons and it is really great to watch how excited your kids get about reading. The prices are really, really low, but I find myself over-buying, so be careful. The building is beautiful, but they dont always have the selection I would prefer. But what can you expect for that cheap?
PROS: cheap
CONS: books sometimes torn
North Clackamas Aquatic Park
They've got clean and nice facilities and I feel fairly safe letting my kids just go loose. The lifeguards seem competent without being overly pushy. Kids love the wave pool, but watch out because they won't want to leave. We rented a party room and it was the toast of the third grade. Cake, ice cream and swimming is just a good time.
PROS: nice facilities
CONS: expensive food
Fairly Honest Bill
The signs on the outside of the store have the most irritating mis-spellings. Thats what attracted me in the first place. I thought something with advertising that horrible really had to have something going for it in the merchandise department. Boy was I wrong. Im afraid Mr. Honest has drastically over-estimated the worth of the junk hes selling in his shop. Sigh.
PROS: none
CONS: not even an entertaining story, just sad
Red Light Clothing Exchange
The Red Light has been a favorite of mine for a whilea more dramatic alternative to Buffalo Exchange sans the J. Crew crowd. The service isnt all that helpful and they dont really care whether or not youre happy with your purchases, but it all goes with the aura of this place and makes a happy hipster feel right at home.
PROS: not your typical
CONS: things a little torn up sometimes
Q Nail Salon
This place has been wonderful to me in terms of quality and price. I didnt realize until recently when I went somewhere else that Q Nails is really a fabulously business that focuses on great quality. I will advertise for Q Nails forever because its just that good. Youll definitely feel a difference and they will NEVER accidentally make you bleed . . .
PROS: you feel great leaving
CONS: getting over to NePo
Cha Cha Cha
You wont find a happier wait-staff or clientele in any other Mexican restaurant in Portland. This place serves up enormous burritos to a hungry crowd every day at lunchtime. You can get a freshly prepared, hefty meal for about $5. Seating is both indoor and out, but plan ahead, because parking in the area gets tough during the week day. Open 10am 10pm daily and takes major credit cards.
PROS: Fresh salsa
CONS: croooowds
Di Prima Dolci Italian Bakery
Located just off the Max line in North Portland, DiPrima Dolce has been making a name for itself as the purveyor of the finest cannoli in the city. The baked goods are traditional and run the gamut from chocolate-hazelnut crocantini to fresh Italian bread. The atmosphere is pleasant with the head baker routinely and loudly greeting return-customers. Good for non-traditional Sunday morning brunch.
PROS: lots of traditional Italian stuff
CONS: some non-Italian
Beaterville Cafe
If youre looking for a breakfast to impress your hipster friends without all the fuss of parking in the Hawthorne district, the Beaterville Caf is your place. Serving up big portions of pancakes, omelets and the usual breakfast fare, Beaterville offers patrons more than just delectable chow. The dcor has a vibrantly eclectic flair, so every order comes with a side of AWESOME. A solid meal will run you between $9 and $14. Open until 2:30 pm daily.
PROS: good vegan and veggie stuff
CONS: if eclectic isn't your thing, this isn't your place
