His Folk, Books and More
His Folk, Books and More" is a Christian new and used book store, clothing consignment shop, AND a rent-a-space for small groups (up to 8 comfortably). Chapelle, the owner, is friendly, supportive, and offers both a great shopping experience and service. Clothing, hand made jewelry, new and used books, Christian tapes and videos, AND a place for a book club or any other group to meet, she has it.
I hope this new business does well. Hidden in the shopping center off Smithfield Road and Brandi, it is a short hop from Mid-Cities Blvd.
Simoniz Car Wash
This car wash has both a car wash AND a state inspection AND a oil change in one.
State Inspection staff are fast, reliable, and almost no wait.
Having a state inspection there gets you a free car wash, which is the only time we ever have a car wash there (not worth it otherwise).
Oil change is about comparable in price to the surrounding competitors.
Go for the state inspection - then the car wash is worth it!
Quality Inn-Seaworld
This motel is very close to Sea World, and a short hop there given current road/ramp closures in the area.
Decent price, given being so close to a major tourist attraction. Decent buffet in the morning. Fair housekeeping.
Does need more parking.
Cameron Park Zoo
This small zoo is a gem, and a recommended run around spot for those coming off I-35. The lions, elephants, and rhinos are close and accessible. The otters are playful. The lemurs and meerkats are adorable.
My only issue with this facility is the admission price given it's size. They are about as expensive as Dallas and Fort Worth's zoos, while being about half the size.
It's a good diversion, especially if you can't drive to larger facilities with a greater diversity of animals
Hurst Public Works
Hurst's library has an excellent selection of children's books, adult fiction, and even some new science fiction (Try finding that at any library these days).
The staff are helpful and courteous. Their hours are better than nearby Bedford's library, due to better funding.
City of Bedford Library
The limited hours are due to city budget cuts. However, whether asking where a book section is located or asking about other city events that go on at the library, they might as well not be there.
The childrens' library is well stocked, but their librarians only get involved when it is the regular "reading to children hour".
Hurst's library is much better, although Bedford residents do need to pay a small out of pocket cost to get a library card there.
Jones Laurie - Bailey Hyde & Cremer
My one year old son needed to see a dentist. Our prior dentist had scared the daylights out of our 4 year old daughter. Then I heard about Drs. Bailey, Hyde and Cremer - also known as www.fundentist.com.
My son was excited at all the child friendly entertainment. He was able to sit in our lap and get his teeth checked. No fears, no worries, and no bad memories.
These dentists are WONDERFUL.
Chapps Cafe
Chapps Cafe is a classic style burger joint with real burgers and greasy food. If you don't mind the cholesterol count, you'll love the food. They have a family owned style while still being a larger chain, but without the over-diversified menu of Denny's. Limited selection, but what they have is excellent.
Barnes & Noble Booksellers
I shopped here often during my college days, which is why I was thrilled when they allowed me to have my first book signing there.
This store is renowned for its science fiction selection.
My kids love their children's book section; there is a vast array of books with soft toys, interactive features, and board books for young children.
Firestone Tire & Auto Ctr
If you need a tire replaced, they can get you in relatively quick - IF you are not there right when they open or at the 4 PM after work rush. If you need an annual inspection, though, I recommend going somewhere else - you'll wait forever and they'll recommend service you probably don't need.
