Friend Of A Farmer

New York, NY American Restaurants 07/21/05: 'Still my Favorite Breakfast place'

In the city that is. While I still doubt the owners know any farmers, I must say the food is delicious. Unfortunately, like all great things in the city, that means it draws a crowd. You have to go early or be prepared to wait in line.

PROS: Yummy....
CONS: Waiting... send a friend to wait the line for you???

Doma Cafe & Gallery

New York, NY Cafes 07/21/05: 'Great West Village Coffee Shop'

This place is sooo chill. You get your beverage of choice, sit down, read a book from their shelf, or your own book and no one bothers you if you don't want. The patrons are all very nice, so if you want conversation with randoms, this is a cool place too. They have huge dog bowls with water outside, so it's a wonderful place to stop if you're out walking your pup.

PROS: Nice peep, perfect coffee shop atmosphere
CONS: none

French Roast

New York, NY French Restaurants 07/21/05: 'Decent Brunch... A little snobby though'

It's generally not too crowded for brunch and they do have great coffee. However, it is not your leisurely cafe. If you're done, you need to leave. I had a special moment there, when a friend of mine and I went to chat. The place was still full, but the waiters were hovering.

PROS: Decent cup of joe
CONS: Not so leisurely for a cafe

Conway

New York, NY Department Stores 07/21/05: 'So cheap!!!'

In NY it's rare to find stuff for super cheap. The Conway stores are it. The inventory really ranges, but it changes often. I would def go to this one if you are looking for any sorts of cheap clothes that are trendy and you think will not be around after this season.

PROS: Cheap, Lots of Turn over so new inventory.
CONS: Cheap, ridiculus lines during their busy hours.

Utrecht Art Supply

New York, NY Art Supplies - New York, NY Art & Artists 07/21/05: 'The Cheapest place for Painting Supplies'

This place is great and super busy. The downside is they can run out of inventory; I think it has to do with proximity to NYU and art students in the village. Keep in mind there is another store in Chelsea on 23rd & 7th, same inventory, but newer and generally better stocked cause peeps are still finding out about it.

PROS: Cheap, lots of supplies, great selection, nice peeps
CONS: out of inventory a lot.

Sushi Samba Seven

New York, NY Japanese Restaurants 07/13/05: 'Trendy Scene, Decent Food'

A great scene on the weekends, this place is a total meat market. It also tends to be a great place for business meetings, as the atmosphere is relaxed and the service - once you actually get a table - is quite responsive. The upstairs is nice for a quieter setting. There is outdoor seating during the day which is also quite nice. Beware if you do not have a reservation though.

PROS: The scene
CONS: The wait, sans reservation

W Hotels-Lakeshore

Chicago, IL Hotels 07/13/05: 'A Great Place for Young Out of Towners'

This place is very hip and trendy. There are a lot of extras in the room so that you can take the Ian Schrager lifestyle with you when you leave. I can't give it 5 star though b/c when I compare it to the 4-seasons and Ritz, there are just so many little details that are better. It may be too trendy for some of the older generations. However, I would absolutely recommend it to most staying in the city as the entertainment downstairs is great! Nice hotel bars. A totally trendy place.

PROS: Trendy scene, great energy
CONS: Too many people at times

En Japanese Brasserie

New York, NY Japanese Restaurants 07/13/05: 'Very Authentic, Very Fresh'

I did a sushi test with co-workers at lunch. You could tell the difference in the freshness and quality of the tuna at En which ranked the highest. They are quite authentic in their choices. Try the pork belly while you are there. On the down side, it's not what you normally expect from an americanized sushi or japanese restauarant. So have expectations set accordingly.

PROS: Very Fresh, great Food, great service
CONS: Not the normal Japanese place

Bloomie Nails

New York, NY Nail Salons 07/13/05: 'A decent place to do nails'

Bloomies is a pseudo Korean owned chain. They have a host of services, but I have only ever done manicure and pedicure. They do a decent job of both and fit all the minimum requirements for a positive recommendation. They use all the normal salon brands, however, I think you may want to bring in a stronger top coat, as theirs rarely gets me through the end of the week.

PROS: Decent price, nice manicurists
CONS:

The Sports Club La

New York, NY Health Clubs & Gyms 07/13/05: 'Great Facilities'

This club and the three others on the upper east side are amazing. While membership does not get you access to all three, the people that work there are flexible to helping you get the occassional access if you need it. This is truly a destination gym, with basketball, squash, pool, rock climbing wall and other facilities. I personally like how clean it is, since I love sauna and jacuzzi. The people are beautiful at the club as well. I'd join if you can afford it.

PROS: Great Facilities, you get what you pay for!
CONS: Expensive!
