The Pierce County LIbrary is an excellent way to get your kids involved in reading. The summer program rewards the kids for the books that they read. They used to give out food rewards, movie rewards, etc. The kids have to report on a few of the books they read to the librarian to make sure they are being honest with their reading. But it's a great program with helpful librarians that suggest books at the kids level and it's free if you live within Pierce County.
I love to take people that are visiting to this store so they can have unique gifts from the Northwest to take back home with them. It's a ton of fun even if you aren't a visitor to realize what things can only be found in the Northwest! The prices are pretty decent since the items are good quality.
I called up Fox Fire on the day of my wedding open house (after my actual wedding day) and needed to get an updo done at the last minute. They were able to fit me in and did an excellent job but I was shocked at the price - nearly double what I had paid on my wedding day. But I did look great! :) And everyone was very helpful and excited to talk to me about my wedding.
Although the funeral home is not where anyone would probably chose to go visit on their home, the staff here try and make things as painless as possible. They are very helpful in explaining options and helping you make decisions - not based on the money they will make off of it ... .but your own needs. Anything funeral related that you need help with - they will help provide.
Growing up in a camping/hiking family - trips to GI Joes were quite frequent! Any sport you can think of - you can find the equipment you need here. For the most part - the prices are really quite good too and don't seem high in any way. Plus they have lots of specials and sales throughout the year so if you time it right - you can come out ahead.
Miniature Golf Courses (especially outdoor ones) are not found in large abundance in the Tacoma area. Which is one of the many reasons why this place is so popular! They have 4 different "courses" you can check out. And if you get a hole in one on the last hole - you get a free game of golf and a trophy (at least you used to a few years ago). This is a place to frequent in the summer months.
Import Outlet has a huge selection of materials for craft type projects. I came here specifically for their large selection of 12x12 scrapbook pages. They have a wide variety of cardstock colors and print paper. The prices vary - some things are a great deal and other things you might want to shop around for. But overall they fulfill most needs that you might have!
Artco is a local owned shop that can rival and beat the chain of Michael's in many ways. They have a huge selection of everything craft related, you can get pictures framed here and everything. The scrapbook section is quite expansive which is great since there aren't a ton of scrapbooking stores in this part of Washington. Great store.
Kind of strange but I love going to Top Food for their candy! They have barrels and barrels of candy and every kind that you could possibly want or need. Top is also known for their great flower selection.
I visited Les Schwab right after I bought my used car. I was so impressed! They got me a great deal on wheels and new tires for my car. And since I had to leave that afternoon to drive to another state . . . they printed out a map and directions for me to get to another one of their stores in a different city to get my tires checked out and adjusted for the rest of my journey. I was very impressed. It's too bad they aren't in more states!
