Stinky & Minky Vintage Childrens Wear

New York, NY Children's Clothing Stores 10/13/05: 'Don't breathe through your nose'

If you are one of those people who detest today's fashion wares for children and wish kids dressed more like kids than Britney Spears clones you hae to visit this store. It's one of the few unique shops for kids in the city. They have clothes that are from the actual 1950's and clothes that are fashioned from the 50's and other decades. It's a must for anyone with a child. At least once in your life you have to stop by and pay homage.

Selima Optique

New York, NY Optical Goods Stores - New York, NY Opticians 10/13/05: 'I spy with my little eye...'

Selima Optique is named after an actual Selima person who supposedly loves having little shops all over downtown Manhattan. You will find a fantastic selection of eve-glasses here in an environment that is somewhat bohemian and very friendly. The prices are steep and not for the financially strapped but you do get what you pay for. Which is quality and originality.

MarieBelle Chocolates

Mariebelle Fine Treats & Chocolates carries some of the best chocolate treats around. You have to try their Azteca drinking chocolate. It's simply divine. It's rich and has more cocoa than just sugar and a kick of spice. They also recently added a chocolate cafe and bar in back of the shop so you can relax and enjoy their chocolate.

origins store

Origins store carries great products. They pride themselves on using all natural ingredients and their charcoal mask is excellent. Their foaming face wash is the best facial cleanser I have used. Now the down side, most of their products run you about you at least $15 which is a bit steep. The staff is usually quite helpful which almost takes the sting from the pricey products.

Shabby Chic

New York, NY Home & Garden - New York, NY Furniture Stores 10/13/05: 'How shabby are you?'

Shabby Chic is not the best bargain and some New Yorkers would argue that it has no place in high fashion New York apartments, but all you have to do is spend one night on their delightfully soft and comfy bed throws and linens and you may find yourself a shabby addict. The have a wide variety of selections and friendly staff ready and willing to assist you.

Broadway Panhandler is where you If you're looking for that strangely shaped frying pan or a simple spatula, this store can provide what you need at a reasonable price. other music

New York, NY Shopping 10/13/05: 'Music makes the world go round'

Other Music supposedly had an impressive reputation as being the place to go for every music artist known to man. So I was rather disappointed to find it's just one small room, with an island of CD racks in the middle and the selection rather poor to boot. At least everything is organized and easy to find. Just don't ask the clerks for any help looking for artists that are not on this weeks Top tweny countdown.

Jivamukti Yoga Center Incorporated

And one and two and one and ohhm and stretch. Come for the open classes. Stay for the continual benefits of feeling healthy and all flexy. Just schedule ahead instead of dropping in for the classes. They are often mad packed. They have this whole stretching/meditating/chanting combo that I find stimulating. Who's up for yoga? Anyone?

Barbara Shaum Leather

Mmm Leather! Just the smell of it puts me in a good mood. It's just feels so good and soft against your feet. Plus there's that whole no sweating smelly feet problem which I personally love. They carry some of the best boots and homemade sandals around. Even if you can't afford the prices which are a little steep you should at least come on your lunch hour and just shoe around.
