Vacavalley Bingo is so fun - we've gone with friends, we've gone with our MOMS group... we always have a great time. There are pros there, so there is always someone to help you out with what to do the first time, and most everyone we've run into has been fun and friendly. Buy in is $10 per game, and the last time I went I won $250! The food in the snack bar is good... not five star cuisine, but it's good and will fill you up. Also, it's not too expensive and it's mostly easy to eat while you dobb!
When we were new in town, I found I needed to get tires on our car. I had a new baby and soooo didn't want to hang out for hours to get them replaced. I happened in on Amnerica's Tire Company and their prices were very good so I placed by order and settled in for what they said would be an hour wait. 25 minutes later (I swear, no joke!) they came and told me the car was done! Amazing service, and everyone was pleasant and helpful. I have been back twice since and have received similar service (maybe not quite as fast as the first time, but always quicker than they say it'll be).
When we purchased our house, we had no paperwork on our garage door opener, and the company that installed it was out of business. The previous owners didn't leave us the code to the touchpad and we wanted to change it for security - and so we could actually use it! I called RW Garage and they were most helpful. They copied a manual for us and then went so far as to coach us through resetting the system - then called to make sure we got it done right. If I was ever going to replace our garage door, I would call them without hesitation.
This place is a treasure trove of cake decorating items. It's located in downtown Dixon and is wall-to-wall cake pans, cake toppers, figurines, frosting dyes, molds, boxes, forms, spreaders, and carboard bases. Truly, you can find just about anything here - or they can order it for you. There is stuff for weddings, birthdays and holidays - we found Nemo stuff for a friend, Tractor stuff for my son and Beauty and the Beast for my daughter. Our next party will surely have a home-made cake as well... and we'll definitely go here first! BEWARE! They are closed on Mondays and don't open until 11AM most other days! Call first!
Barnes & Noble is great - I love book stores, I admit it... I can spend an entire afternoon going up and down every aisle, checking out books on almost any subject. When I find something interesting, I'll plop myself down into a comfy chair (they have lots of them) and read for a bit before I buy. They have a Starbucks inside, so on a cold day I can get my mocha fix too! Their prices aren't the best (really, you can't get a deal on a book anywhere but ebay these days, can you?), but I still like to hang out there and always end up buying more than I went there for. My husband loves their huge magazine collection, and my kids love the large kids section too.
Winco is great for packaged, non-perishable food. If you're looking for cereal, canned soup, mac & cheese, frozen pancakes, laundry detergent or soda pop then Winco is your place. I've had a few problems with their dairy and produce, however... and their meat isn't the greatest either. Basically, I'll buy it there if I'm using it within 24 hours, but I've found that it expires or goes bad very quickly. On the good side, their selection is great and their prices are VERY good - for instance, I purchase microwave popcorn there for .88 per box, and Ralphs charges at least 3.00 per box (even on sale). HUGE savings like that are all over this place!
If you want to pay a fortune to get a degree, then by all means go there. You're much better off going to a junior college for your general education, then heading to a state college for your undergrad degree. If you want to spend a year getting your MBA here while you work, that's one thing, but to spend what they charge for a 4 year degree is a waste. To make matters worse, most employers don't look positively on a degree from them anyway. Frustrating!
If you want homestyle comfort food, this is the place for you. The portions are enormous, the food is great. Our favorite is their breakfast - nothing fancy there, but satisfying. Their club sandwich is good, their chicken pot pie is world class! My husband loves their meatloaf and pot roast - and their hamburgers are great too. We've never been able to try their dessert... we are too stuffed!
El Caracol is spanish for "The Snail", and boy do they live up to their name. We've been there twice and never got food faster than 45 minutes after we put in our order. We went the second time because we thought they just COULDN'T be so slow again... boy were we wrong! We went with another family, both of us had small children and they were still as slow, or slower, than the first time. The food is good enough, just not worth the wait.
Taco Bell is good for cheap, filling food - not great food, but good enough. They are particularly great when you've been out late and you want to eat before you go home. The best part is that they make your food to order, so you get your burrito or taco exactly how you order it (no onions for me!). The steak and potato burrito is one of our favorites items on the menu!
