I like shopping here not only because of the phenomenal deals you get on 1 or 2 day old products, (which do not taste any different to me than same day) but because they are a darn nice company. They give donuts and cookies to communities in need for events for children and others from their factory in Miami. I have been there personaly and am impressed with their operation.
You look at the color of the line on the box to determine the price. It is hard to resist when you walk away with a giant bag for a few dollars. Once I got their red star on my receipt and got my purchase for free.
PROS: still fresh, delicious and cheap
CONS: hard to resist
I have used Mr. Abrams for several years, mainly because he happened to be on my insurance plan. He is good for simple transactions such as documents and consultations.
Mr. Abrams happens to be a lovely man, but I think I prefer someone not so low key. That is just my personality and perhaps he will be good for you. He is efficient and gives good advice, though he tends to go on and on talking about family values and life. Well meaning, but I did not come there for that!
PROS: good attorney for more simple things
In City Place, you can not go to this shopping area without a pitstop at this store. They really get you by putting out the sale candies by the piece right as you walk in. The aroma from the store, if nothing else (I think it's from those waffle cones they make for their homemade ice cream ), will entice you to try something. I see a lot of people enjoying their ice cream and soda fountain drinks, although I have never tried one, myself. I go for the candy! You can watch them make some of the candy right there.
There are tables outside to sit, eat and drink, and enjoy the musical performances in the evening.
PROS: location, great product
This Improv Comedy Club has some good acts. Located in City Place, it hosts some unknown and known comics. You will see many of them come out of that program on TV, "Last Comic Standing" and they are funny performers.
Inside you will find a bar area and a restaurant. Lots of people hang out there before the show and it caters to a younger crowd.
I get their email newsletter sent to me and they usually have discounted tickets for sale. The "2 for 1" ticket coupons can also be found in the Entertainment Coupon Book for the area. The only problem, though, we experienced is that the coupon is not good on special engagements, like the more known names. Nevertheless, it is a fun evening.
PROS: good performers
CONS: don't accept coupons for special engagements
This playhouse has some pretty good shows and some mediocre ones too. They have been in business for about 65 years, starting out as a community theater (I was in a show there once, myself, many years ago) and it turned professional in the 90's. I love its charming look, like a miniature real theater with a balcony. It seats about 200 people and is located right in a quiet residential neighborhood.
The best thing is to go to their website or call them to check out what is playing. The subject of the shows tend to lean toward a more senior crowd, but they do have shows that appeal to others as well. The cost of tickets is usually under $20.00 Occasionally they have children's theater and other theater activities going on there.
PROS: lovely intimate theater
A few months ago I got to see the new Parrot Jungle Island off the Causway. We took some classes there from the school. It's very lovely with the landscape and location facing the water, but to tell you the truth I liked the old Parrot Jungle when it was in So. Miami. Because the foliage is so new, it looks a bit "staged" like someone brought in a bunch of trees (which they did!) for the parrots. The one in the south felt and smelled like a real jungle.
Although the main attraction are the parrots, they have lots of other beautiful birds there as well. The bird show is worth seeing. They also have some othr animal shows such as a reptile show and a monkey show. Children as well as adults will enjoy it here and there's not a bad seat in the house.
PROS: Nice way to spend a day with the family
CONS: doesn't feel like a real jungle
This is a screen printing and sign company run by a family with a deaf man as the artist. Juan may have no speech, but he can produce beautiful screen printed items such as shirts, bags and caps. Many of the things have sign language or the sign alphabet. This makes them very unique. People involved with deafness put in big orders for clubs, events and school functions. They do work, of course, for other people as well.
Prices are very good and they are fair and honest people.
PROS: nice work, good prices
CONS: sometimes slow with order
I once did a mystery shop for this store and got to really check
it out. The shelves and everything in the store are organized very well. The cleanliness was also a plus.
Associates stood at th entrance to greet you and ask you if you needed help.
I got to use their 40% off coupon on a single item which they print in the Sunday coupon section of the newspaper. Check it out each Sunday to see if they have one.
If you go to www.consumerlab.com, you will see that vitamin World's products, many of them have been tested for potency and value. Do not let the low prices fool you. They are as good as many brands who sell for double the price.
PROS: good product, good value
When our car became flooded and stopped working during the bad weather, we brought our Toyota here. The service was fast and efficient considering that everyone and his brother was there for the same problem. Because the car was under warranty, there was not a problem and off we went.
PROS: good, fast service
There is an old-fashioned feeling and look to the items sold here. They are kind of plain for my taste, and very expensive as well. I enjoy browsing here, but have not bought anything because of the prices. The things for sale here are household and decorative items and furniture.
PROS: simple taste for people who like that
