We've sat everywhere from field boxes to rafter boxes, and we've always had a good time. But long gone are the days when a working class man can take his family to the game for a reasonable cost. These days if you want that same experience you're going to have to have a bankroll. Seats are squished in the upper decks, but there's a good view from everywhere - in fact you get a great view out of the park at the city when you sit higher up. The service at vending as in most parks is sporadic or at worst they'll run out of food altogther in the 6th inning... particularly in the upper decks.
If working in the upper kirby area why drive to Home Depot? From basic fasteners to custom mixed paint, it's a good place to get what you need without having to deal with a big box store. There's always at least one person standing at the entrance waiting to answer any questions that you have.
This is a full service spa salon. The manicurist in particular is very nice and does a great job. Also they'll work together to coordinate several services in one visit, and the complimentary wine never hurts. Prices are really reasonable, and the services are high quality. Parking can be a little difficult for late appointments when the restaurant downstairs starts to get busy.
This vet is right by Greenway Plaza, so if you work in that area its easy to drop your pet off in the morning and pick them up in the afternoon. Also they are good about making room for emergency appointments when you need them, and always return calls promptly. The vets are very nice and great with dogs (not that they aren't good with other animals, but I only have a dog).
Char herself is often behind the counter at this well established pet store, specializing in reptiles and amphibians. The staff is extremely knowlegeable, and you can find absolutely anything you need here. They have snakes, frogs, lizards, and anything necessary to feed or house them, including good advice. Also you might catch a glimpse of some of the owners' interesting pets upstairs.
Ok so this place is not the cleanest, and it smells a little wierd, but you're guaranteed to have a memorable experience. There is always house music blasting, which goes pretty well I guess with the psychedelic murals. Also, the clientele is very colorful, you might get a little show with your beer stop. Pak's is my favorite corner store, I'll miss my grungy little quick stop when I move.
This is a very cool old hotel in downtown Houston, updated to be trendy/hip. Pretty expensive, but you get something for your money. Nice exercise facility, nice decor. Rooms are a little on the small side but fabulous. There is some really cool art throughout the hotel, mostly Houston or Texas themed. Good place for a special occaision.
Niko Nikos is a legendary Houston greek food joint, started as a simple food stand and now it's a full size restaurant. They recently added another dining room and more parking. Pretty much everything is great, but definitely make sure you get a greek salad - very refreshing with a huge piece of yum feta cheese and a perfect oil and vinegar dressing. Don't be shy about ordering extra tsatsiki sauce with your gyro, everybody knows that's the best part.
The key to this place is that it is a consignment shop, not just a thrift store. This means that the price on each item is set by whoever brought it to the store - like a giant multi family garage sale. So, of course some things are overpriced, but the vast majority is ridiculously cheap. Always ask someone about the price, the price on the tag may not be right - the longer the item has been there the price starts to go down. They have absolutely everything - decor items, clothes, jewelry, silver services, furniture, collectibles.... this place is ALWAYS packed when they're open so you may need to park and walk a bit to get there.
One of the best places in town to watch the big game, but you darn well better get their early or you'll be out of a parking spot and a seat. If you have no heart for sports, you can play pool, darts or golden tee. Also has some of the best bar food in town - the Tavern burger is a force to be reckoned with, order it as it comes, there's some kind of alchemy involved in their particular combo of toppings.
