This is probably the most popular vet in the Montrose area. They've been around for years and have a loyal following. The office is very nice and clean, spacious enough for pets to keep their distance from one another in case of any crankiness. The doctors are nice and very knowledgeable. Only problem I've had is that since they are popular and therefore busy, it can sometimes be difficult to get information or make quick appointments - for example, if something is wrong and you are not sure if it is serious enough for an office visit, you may wait a good chunk of the day just to get a call back.
My boyfriend took me to La Mora for a special birthday dinner and he couldn't have picked a better place. It's in a converted house in the Montrose, very romantic. The skylit indoor courtyard is definitely the best choice during the daytime. We super splurged on the 4 course menu with a matched wine selection for each course - expensive but by the end you definitely know what you've paid for. Wait staff was great also.
PROS: service, quality, location, atmosphere
In the heart of the Montrose, one of the last surviving neighborhood hardware stores. It won't take you a fortnight to walk from one end to the other like in the big-box stores, and the staff is friendly, available and knowledgeable. Several people on staff have been working there for decades. Don't be fooled by the apparent small size - the place is far bigger than it appears from the outside, if a bit maze-like, and their selection in most categories rivals their larger chain competitors. Their prices may be a bit higher on some items, but in my opinion I make up the difference in the gas and effort it would take to go to one of the mega-stores.
PROS: location, helpful staff
I love to browse and gift shop here. They have lots of very nice sketch book/journals, artsy craftsy projects, pretty stationary paper, art books, etc. They do carry a very full line of serious art supplies, but their prices are somewhat high and it can be difficult to find knowledgeable help. My opinion is that their strength is as an art-oriented gift shop or the place to find a weekend craft project for the kids - rather than as a supplier that caters to serious artists. But a fun place to browse through the afternoon!
I tried this vet because they were close to my house and relatively inexpensive. It is an ok place, the staff is pretty nice and there are some cute murals on the walls but it could definitely use some TLC. Also the exam room I was in still had stuff laying around from the previous pet exam, and they were out of all their flea prevention products. The place is kind of difficult to find if you haven't been there before, call for directions.
This place is packed at lunch with the local office crowd for good reason. Ok decor (strip center chic) but the food makes up for it. Definitely try their pizza - great cheap lunch special on the personal size. Service is friendly but can be slow or sporadic, like only half of the table might get their salad before the entree. Good house salads tossed with a light vinaigrette dressing, plus free garlic breadsticks while you wait (which may or may not be a while). Also parking can be an issue during lunch, so walk or carpool. No problem parking in the evening.
PROS: Food, location
This is a nice little neighborhood dry cleaner. The lady who runs the place is always the one behind the counter - very friendly and knows all her regulars. The price here is definitely hard to beat and the cleaning is certainly satisfactory - just make sure to point out stains when you drop off your stuff to be sure they all come out. That being done, they can get out just about anything!
PROS: price, friendly
Walking distance from Greenway Plaza offices, this small thai restaurant offers a fast lunch at a good price. The curry dishes (red, green and yellow) are all very good (at the sweeter end of the spectrum), also yummy vegetable crispy rolls come with all the lunch specials. If you like mango, definitely try the mango sticky rice - a fresh half mango over sweet rice with a light sugary sauce. Always packed by the local office crowd at lunch time.
A chill place to get your hair etc done. Trendy but not trying too hard. Convenient location, good place to get a skillfull and fashionable cut without paying a ridiculous price. Good Montrose area people watching from the chairs, and keep your ears open for useful gossip. Also open fairly late on weeknights.
In the heart of the Montrose, the almost extinct corner liquor store still survives in the form of M's Liquor. They may be smaller than their nearby competition, but their selection is just as diverse and the clerks will go out of their way to help you find what you want - even if you're not quite sure what that is. Very friendly guys, and a neighborhood favorite.
