MoMA Store located inside the Museum has lots of posters and books about the art on display in the Museum. Some of the Van Gogh items are beautiful and most of the posters are printed on high quality paper and look great framed.
The Guggenheim Museum SoHo Gift Shop carries all sorts of interesting items based primarily on items in the Guggenheim's collection. I especially like the mobiles as they look great hanging in my apartment. They also have books, gift cards and posters all with a contemporary art feel.
he Asia Society is a fascinating Museum with an everchanging variety of exhibitions and the Gift Shop is an excellent shopping venue. They have a great array of books on Asian Culture and art.
The gift shop in the Cathedral itself is small but across the srteet on 51st street they have a much larger facility. There is everything from scarves, greeting cards and pillboxes. They also sell a nice collection of reproductions from the Vatican's collection.
Mud, Sweat, & Tears is an old fashioned pottery making place. Make a pot or dish and then when it is all done paint it up and have a unique gift. They have everything you need to get in touch with your inner potter.
House of Cards & Curiosities is jam packed with really neay stuff. Everything from Mexican Day of The Dead art pieces to different greeting cards and all sorts of cool novelties. If you are looking for a gift that is unique try this shop first.
Gotta have It sells more than just autographed items. They try to find signifiacnt or oddball items. They have a Marilyn Monroe but it is not just a photo it is the actual certificate for her conversion to Judaism so she could marry Arthur Miller(who also signed as a witness). They also have lots of signed rock albums and sports items.
The Container Store fills a very real need. The store is dedicated to helping you maximize space which in a place like New York City is very important. The staff is well trained to help guide you through the process in space saving. Sure beats the old alternative of just throwing all of your stuff out.
U.S.E.D. has a large selection of vintage glassware pieces like boxes and glassware. They seem to seek out stylish pieces that have nice designs or color. they also sell some toys and the staff is helpful.
The T Salon has over 100 teas which they serve by the pot. It is small and homey and nice and quiet. You can relax and unwind easily here with a sandwich and a pot of tea for under $20. A very nice place.
