Finally a restaurant with real breakfast food, not frozen, premade stuff. The potatoes are out of this world. The omelets are obviously made with fresh ingredients and there are a ton of choices. They have delicious pancakes and waffles too. They have a specialty jam on the table and you can purchase some to take home. You may have to wait for a table because the word is out about this great eatery.
Don't let this resaurant fool you. The old Hobitt Cafe was located next to Bales and did a booming business until a few months ago, when it went downhill. The new Hobitt has opened up down the street and they lead you to believe it is the same but the food and the service is miles from the old restaurant. The decor is way overdone and busy. It has a dirty smell of mold and cigarettes. While I was dining there I saw 3 people send back their food. I visited again to see if it was just because they were new and things weren't worked out yet, but it was worse the second time around. Besides the food being mediocre the cooks and wait staff were arguing, using profanity. This is a real dive.
Chiam is a fixture in the Cedar Mill neighborhood. They offer Chinese and American Food seven days a week. They have a bar in the back but it isn't of the same quality that the restaurant is. They have servers that have been there for years and the man that greets you at the door haa been there forever. They have large tables to accompany family dining and smaller booths for two. The food is delicious and you can get it to-go too.
Miller Paint has the variety and quality that is miles above department store paint. The paint costs a little bit more but in the long run it's worth it. This Miller Paint store has employees that have experience that you won't find if you buy your paint at a chain store. They also offer wallpapers and everything you will need to beautify your home. It is kind of tucked away in Cedar Mill so it doesn't seem to be so busy that you can't get in and out quickly so you can get to work on that remodel!
Signature Shoes has a fair variety of Birkenstocks but the service is where this store is hurting. Birkenstock prices are pretty much the same no matter where you shop so it's the variety and service that sets a store apart. When I went to this store and asked for a certain style they told me they hadn't made them for years. I visited another store where there was plenty of the style I had asked for and told them what had happened. They said that Signature just didn't carry them. It was dishonest of Signature to give out wrong information. They also buy back shoes at Signature, but not at always what they quote you when you purchase the shoes in the first place. All in all, there are plenty of places that would love to sell you Birkenstocks and would love to give you the good service you deserve when spending your hard earned money.
Portland Music has a large rental department for the students looking to rent for band. They really attract prospective buyers with guitars and drums that can be tried out before they are purchased. Downstairs they have an enormous selection of music for every intrument imagineable. They will also order if you want something they don't have. The sales people are of great help and also fun. If you have a music need, Portland Music is your spot to shop.
The Cedar Mill Library offers all the emenities of a big city library with the location and feeling of "hometown". They have many computers, for internet access and a huge reference section. The variety of DVD's, videos, and books on tape is astounding. They have a great children's section with storytime and reading programs. There is a community room ideal for business meetings or girl scouts. The librarians are very knowledgable and they have a super army of volunteers. It's a great place for a teen to get in some hours helping out the community.
The Mole Hole has more baubles and pretties than you can imagine. The variety is enormous. It's located in Beaverton Town Square next to Moonstruck Chocolates. They have a spunky staff that is delighted to help you. It's a super place to pick up a gift of better yet something for yourself. They have a great selection of one of a kind clocks, fighurines, jewelry, and much, much more. You really need to see the beautiful items at the Mole Hole.
Trader Joes is not only has a large variety of great foods but the prices are the lowest in town. The produce is fresh and organic. The prices are often far below the retail chains for almost all produce. They don't have a huge inventory so they may not offer everything on any given day. If you're a vegetarian then Trader Joes is your one stop shop. They have an enormous amount of vegetarian and vegan products. They also carry no sugar, no dairy, items. The lines are quick and the employees friendly. It's the best store around.
Scandia Imports has all the great items that those of us with Scandinavian relatives grew up with. There is glassware and knick knacks from Finland, Norway, and Denmark. They offer a variety of Christmas items that you probably thought you'd have to get online. They also have homemade food items from Scandanavian countries. If you want to know about Scandanavian events going on in the Portland Metro area they have posters or leaflets of upcoming events. It's a great place to pick up a gift for that special Swede or Dane in your life.
