The music department is the primary focus of my review. The instruments are pretty much at a fair market value, but it's the staff that separates them from the others. Tey are very knowledgable and helpful. They actually play instruments themselves and can give you tips and advice based upon personal experience.
The YMCA of Elizabeth CIty is a very well equipped Gym and Fitness Center. COmplete with childcare and indoor heated swimming pool. They feature a cardio center with lots of treadmills, stationary bikes and eliptical gliders. The free weght section is a bit understated as they could use a few more stations to give a more well rounded workout.
This company exploits the spanish-speaking population in Elizabeth City and takes advantage of the low income people or bad credit people. With his "Buy here, Pay here" gimmick, he intices his victims onto the lot where what awaits them are death traps on wheels that he takes no pride or has no concern for there condition. I have seen first hand the "repair" work that he authorizes be done to his cars and it makes your back yard shade tree mechanic look like an ASE Certified Master Tech! Don't buy from this man if you value the life of your family or yourself.
The Albermarle Family Practice on N Road St. is as good as can be expected for a family practice that is geared more toward the lower income bracket. Since a large portion of their patients recieve Federal Assistance, they doon't have the funds to make everything as pretty as you might want.
Carquest of Elizabeth City had all of the parts I needed as well as a friendly and knowledable staff to assist me. Their service center is quite convenient as well because you can have your tires installed right there.
Wav Tek Pool is awesome because the pool actually produces waves that roll across the length of the pool and splash up on the end. They rent tubes and other flotation devices to help maximize your fun and let you ride the waves. If relaxing and letting the pull of the waves take you across the swimming pool is not your thing, that's OK. The waves aren't constant. The waves come in sessions that last probably 5-10 minutes and then it is calm for 5-10 minutes so the kids can get in and the adults who don't want the waves can enjoy the water too.
Bruceton Bank inside Krogers on Patteson Drive is a nice little bank. I say little because it is a local bank that offers all the things those national chains do. The big difference is that they remember your name. Even now, 2 years after I opened my account, the Branch Manager still calls me by my first name. Now don't think that Bruceton Bank is small just because it's local. They are expanding constantly and recently put in an office in Sabraton with the latest in drive thru technology.
OK, you've read about the rock wall, the laser tag and the roller coaster. Now here's the coolest thing about Valley Worlds of Fun. When they turn down the house lights and kick on the black lights. The bowling balls are all flourescent colored. So are the shoes. It all makes for a real "trippy" experience. Call to see what times they do it, it's worth it.
O.B. Fawleys has been my musical instrument store since they were on High Street. They had a rental program for musicians were you could rent that expensive guitar or amplifier you couldn't afford to buy, but needed in order to "have a most successful band". Their 'Scratch, Dent, and Demo' sales were tops for getting that wireless system you had your eye on.
The new University Town Centre has a gem in it's "Super" Giant Eagle. This Big Bird offers dry cleaning service, drive thru pharmacy and a gasoline station called Get Go. You can actually earn discounts on gasoline by shopping at either this Giant Eagle or the one on Green Bag Road. Just use your Giant Eaglle card and it keeps a tally for you. I recon you could keep stacking your discounts untill you would get free gas. And because it only takes $50 to score a 10 cent discount, it adds up quickly unlike other chains who offer gas discounts.
