This wonderful little shop survived a recent tragedy when fire broke out on their block, and some of the exotic birds perished in the fire. But the store is back and it could not break their spirit. Despite having some of the exterior of the shop still in shambles, they are open for business. Spread the word about them to keep this place open. They have the most beautiful parrots, cages, bird food, gift items and more. Their website is awesome www.windycityparrot.com. They take all credit cards and pay pal. If you love birds and animals, help them to rise up literally from the ashes.
PROS: Gorgeous animals, beautiful website, convenient location
Sometimes it can be difficult to find a really good attorney. This firm came highly recommended to me when I needed help in the past. They do some quality work, the two attorneys that worked with me were always there for me and to take my call. I appreciated their years of experience, hard work and dedication to my case. The paralegals here are also top notch.
Many years ago, I had the pleasure of briefly working with Gene (and his former film critic partner, Roger Ebert). I can tell you from personal experience that Gene was a good and talented man. I am so happy they are honoring his memory with this Film Center. You can enjoy movies that you just won't see at the big chains. They mostly show top quality indie films, and some classics or film festivals. You can also become a member of this organization which will entitle you to special perks and discounted pricing throughout the year.
When pipes burst in my apartment last year (oh, yes, that is truly NOT fun) I had to put in an SOS call to these guys. They offer 24 hour service and were there to help me out right away. They were profesional, the prices were competitive and the service was great. They were done in record time (and when paying by the hour, that's a very big plus!) They also work on water heaters, rodding and problems with drains.
Nestled in the Jefferson Park community is a humble, but quality little bakery and caterer. She is fairly new to the area but is already making a great impression on residents. These cakes not only taste great, but they look like they were created by Martha Stewart herself! Just lovely. Prices are reasonable. Give them a try for an upcoming party, wedding or special event.
PROS: Down to earth, reasonably priced
This is salon and spa is the rave of downtown Evanston, Illinois. Conveniently located near public transportation and the infamous Northwestern University, it's a blend of class, style and old fashioned pampering. You can get your nails done, a great haircut or a facial. The prices are reasonable and the staff make you feel like a million bucks!
PROS: Classy, convenient
This store is one of the biggest hits with tourists and residents alike. All over Michigan Avenue you will see people carrying around their American Girl bags. This unique store sells some of the most beautiful dolls, toys and children's clothing. What they also have, which is a big hit with people, is a theater and cafe on premises.
PROS: Adults and children love this store
For a recent anniversary, I presented the special man in my life with a day at this wonderful salon. At first he seemed a little uncomfortable because he had never been to this type of place. Now I can't get him to stop talking about it! It's a men's spa and boutique where they can get their hair trimmed, nails done, shoes shined, and they even give them complimentary imported beer while they are watching a game on the big screen. Now that's pampering.
PROS: They treat men like a king!
What a gorgeous spa. It's located in the Loop area and features amazing views of Lake Michigan and Navy Pier. I have heard my coworkers rave on about Space 195 so I decided to give it a try one day. They do massages, waxes, manicures and aromatherapy treatments. They also sell jewelry, scarves and handbags.
PROS: First class service
This wonderful little bakery is all about temptation. It's all their fault of this bakery if I gain some pounds! I recently stiopped by on my way home from a long day at the beach (yeah, it's a rough life). I felt the bakery calling me in. I picked up a couple slices of cake (the yellow raspberry was fabulous) and I discovered that they are now serving paninis, some deli sandwiches and other items. The people here are so sweet and friendly. There are a couple small tables where you can enjoy your treats right there.
PROS: Super nice people, great bakery items
