Allstar Auto Glass
I got a rock chip in my windshield on one of the roads that was being fixed. Since I didn't have a lot of time, and this place is on the way, I thought that I could stop here before work and get my windshield fixed. The people here were nice, professional and I only had to wait about 15 minutes. It was speedy and well done.
PROS: Fast service
CONS: none
Monteaux's Public House
I know...the best Hamburgers in Portland? Well, they are 1/2 lb. here at Monteauxs and if you get them medium rare are the best in town! Black and bleu, california, are my favorite! They have a chicken teriyaki that is wonderful, too! THey have a rewards program that gives you $9 after you spend $100 toward your bill and $1 to spend on one of their charities..pick NW Medical Teams!
PROS: Best Hamburgers in town
CONS: closed on Sundays!
thai derm
Seriously, I have been to a lot of Thai restaurants here in Portland...and Thai Derm is the best! It used to be called Singha Thai, but the owner sold it to the head chef! There is Traditional Thai style seating here which is good for groups if you reserve ahead. It is also romantic for dates, too. They have this Northern Thai dish called Khoi Soy which is near to impossible to find anywhere. It's a curry dish with rice noodles, chicken, and fried noodles on top!
PROS: Great ambiance, and incredible food!
CONS: NONE!!
Thai Elephant
For a good Happy Hour...flavorful plates of spring rolls, shrimp gold purses and salad rolls..this is the place to come. Their happy hour requires the purchase of an alcholic beverage but you can order it virgin for the price of the alcholic beverage. Good location in the Streets of Tanasbourne...not as authentic since this is a "refined place", but good overall!
PROS: Good Happy Hour!
CONS: Pricey and bad parking
Bewon Korean Restaurant
Don't let the stark and slighly "uppity" atmosphere fool you..this restaurant has authentic Korean dishes...and they call come to you with the obligatory small dishes of kimchee (pickled veggies) and inventive sides. My favorite are the Bulgogi beef and the Kalbi Beef ribs..flavorful and not heavy! For those not familiar with Korean food, they are a good start!
PROS: Flavorful, authentic
CONS: A bit pricey, but well worth it!
Pho Van Vietnamese
I come here for the elegant ambiance, fresh Vietnam food, and the creative decor. I am IN LOVE with the fresh salad rolls with peanut sauce. With shrimp and pork they are the best in town (and I've tried a lot in town). The vermicelli bowls with the grilled shrimp and lemongrass chicken is great, too!
PROS: Good, inexpensive food!
CONS: wait time, make reservations ahead of time
Marrakesh Moroccan Restaurant
What an awesome experience! It's almost like being in Morroco. From the moment you enter with the draped ceilings, floor cushion seating, eating with your hands, and live belly dancers on Wed - Sat ...you'll feel like a Sultan! The food is priced as a package (appetizer, meal and dessert). I love the rabbit and the chicken with apricots. Reservations are recommened and necessary (especially if you have a large group). Come prepared for an exotic, memorable experience!
PROS: Awesome atmosphere and food!
CONS: A bit pricey, but it is priced as a package meal.
Nicholas Restaurant
Since 1986 "in the know" Portlanders have known about the best kept secret in town..the best Lebanese food in town is run by a by a family in a little "hole in the wall" place off Grand Ave in Portland's Industrial East side. Everything is made from scratch and their bread is baked in an authentic oven from the middle east. It can get crowded on some days (a sign up list is on the door), but it is well worth the wait! The food is always fresh, flavorful, and a great place to take out of towners!
PROS: Fresh food, great flavors, and supports a local favorite!
CONS: Smalll eating area, wait times
Interstate Special Events
I have used Interstate Special Events for my wedding in Jan. 2005. The event coordinators walked us through all the items for rent, and they did a fabulous job in packaging and delivering. Their spiral candelabras and the punch fountains were particularly special for my wedding. I ordered eveything form the serving trays, utensils, tablecloths...and in all they did a fabulous job. Also, there are isle candles that we ordered that added a beautiful glow to the ceremony.
I have recommended Interstate to all my friends..they rent EVERYTHING including tables, chairs, and tents, too!
PROS: Good service, prices and staff!
CONS: None! A fabulous company!
Here Comes The Bride
The selection may be a bit limited since they sell resale wedding gowns as well as some new, but I got a new dress here. The ladies who help you are sooo kind and very helpful and didn't make me feel bad at all (unlike at other Bridal shops). They were very professional and very kind and I did buy my dress here. Go here first!!
PROS: Great prices and kind service!
CONS: limited selection
