Cliff's Variety the castro serves equally well as a toy store, hardware store, and stationary shop. It has a little something for everyone. You'd think with all this variety, the place would a little disorganized, but not so. Walking in, I can almost immediately get to exactly where I mean to, and if not, there is always someone close by who is happy to guide me to what I need. The prices are a little steep, but Cliff's makes up for that with it's central location.
PROS: helpful employees and good merchandise, great location
CONS: high prices
Orphan Andy's restaurant always brings a smile to my face. The employees are always friendly and, in fact, entertaining in their banter with each other and regular clientele. The food is sometimes stellar, sometimes mediocre, but for the price you can't beat it. It's a great neighborhood spot.
PROS: friendly staff, great prices
CONS: unpredictable food
The food at Cafe Flore is creative and the salads are some of the best in the city, but it seems to me the prices are high, even beyond the quality of the food, especially for a cafe where the customer is not waited on. It is also a quiet place to spend hours reading, studying, or talking with friends.
PROS: plenty of room, quiet space, great food
CONS: high prices, self serve
I was floored when I went to Catch for the first time. Not only was the food pure heaven, but the service from the waitstaff was impeccable. Our waitress approached our table often but without interrupting our conversation and was very quick to accomodate any requests. Overall it was a very lovely experience, minus the cheap jazz playing on the piano.
PROS: beautiful food and great service
CONS: bad live jazz music
I have been going to Gotham for tattoos and piercing for years and they have always made me feel comfortable, no matter what the tattoo was or what area I was getting tattooed or pierced. The quality of work of all the employees is above average and any time I try to explain what I want, I always feel understood and respected.
PROS: great work ethic, respect and creativity
CONS: sometimes they're hard to reach by phone
I've been taking my standard poodle to Bernie's to be groomed for about a year and a half now. We get him groomed about every three months, so that's about 6 times we've taken our dog there, and each time they've done something to make me doubt their capability. Our dog is usually well groomed, but half the times we get him back, he's been knicked on one of his ears. My biggest complaint, though, is that they don't seem to budget their time very well. My partner and I both work so it's important that our dog is ready when they promise he will be, so one of us can pick him up. But the last time we brought him in, they were hours late getting him done, and they didn't even call us, leading both of us to believe that the other had picked him up. I finally called about 30 minutes before closing time, just to be sure, when they informed me that they had just finished. So I had to leave work in the middle of something to get him before they closed, under threat of an extra fee because they were late! Then when I got him outside, my poor dog peed for about five minutes straight. I found out they hadn't taken him outside all day!
PROS: thorough grooming and fair prices
CONS: poor planning
