You can find just about everything you need for beauty needs at Ulta. They have a wide choice of hair products, makeup, bath products, and designer fragrances. They also carry all kinds of styling tools. The prices are generally good - even better when there is a sale. I really enjoy the gifts with purchase they sometimes offer - they are generally high quality and unusual.
This local theatre company puts on three different productions - usually musicals - over the course of the summer. The venue is Spring Mountain Ranch, a beautiful outdoor setting surrounded by mountains, and a great place to see the desert sunset. Everybody brings their blankets or chairs, and a picnic dinner, relaxes and eats before the show starts, then settles back to watch under the stars. (Get there early to get a good spot - there is no reserved seating.) It's a lot of fun, and extremely reasonably priced at $8 for adults. The quality of the productions varies - sometimes the leads and cast are very talented, but I've also seen shows that didn't impress me much. Taming of the Shrew last year was terrific, and I'm looking forward to Guys and Dolls this year. Great art isn't necessarily the objective, though - a enjoying a pleasant desert evening is - and this delivers.
PROS: Can't beat the price for a nice night out.
CONS: There are a few - long line getting in, shortage of bathrooms, bugs!
When the occasion calls for a true professional photographer, as opposed to a portrait studio, I would highly recommend Sue Altenburg. My brothers, our spouses, and our kids all got together to do a portrait for my Mom one year, and this studio did a beautiful job. It is set in an older home, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Sue took plenty of time with us, getting a variety of single and grouped shots. We did some gorgeous sepia-toned photos of the children in an old fashioned buggy. She has wonderful props. This may not be the way to go for the annual shot of your child - but I highly recommend it for special times.
PROS: Absolutely beautiful work
CONS: Pricey - this isn't Sears portrait studio!
Finding a reliable, trustworthy A/C service company is vital in Las Vegas! I had what I thought was a broken compressor, and dreaded having the tech come out. They were able to make a quick appointment. The tech was on time, friendly and knowledgeable. He explained exactly what the problem was - it turned out to be just some burned-out wiring - and was able to fix the problem quickly for much less than I expected. I was a cool happy girl :)
They call this a "world" market because this store seems to carry a little of everything from all over, with an emphasis on the exotic. They have furniture, linens, glassware and dinnerware, bath products and even wrapping paper and paper laterns. Walking into the store is like entering a kalidoscope of color. One of my favorite sections contains a huge offering of reasonably priced wine and gourmet foods. This is a fun place to shop!
... in fact, I think it might be the only choice in town! My son and his friends have fun skating here. They do races and contests for the kids, and play up to the minute music (really loud!). We've been to several birthday parties here, and I wasn't impressed. The pizza is cardboard, and the server was inattentive. There is no private party room, only a reserved table in the big main area. Hard to hear yourself think!
This restaurant sits atop the Stratosphere Tower and affords an unparalled 360 degree view of the whole town, through a full glass exterior wall, as the floor rotates slowly. The interior is elegant, with white linens and flowers on the tables. I especially love the cozy booths that allow you to overlook the room and watch the view without turning your head. The food is pricey, but worth it, between the beautiful atmosphere, excellent service, and delicious menu selections presented artfully. I loved the seared sea scallops, and the beef filet is melt in your mouth.
PROS: Very romantic, breathtaking setting.
The recently remodeled bowling center at the Santa Fe casino is a great place for family fun. They've expanded the center and added more lanes and brightly colored walls and carpeting - a big improvement! Prices are in line with other bowling alleys in town. The center is very close to the movie theater and arcade, also in the hotel, for a full day/night of activity options.
I enjoy shopping at Anna's Linens for basic household bedding and bath needs. They have a nice selection of bedding sets, sheets, towels and bathroom accessories. They also carry a good selection of curtains, rods and blinds. I love looking at the great throw pillows they carry. Plus, the prices here are more reasonable than at other large bed and bath chain stores.
If you're tired of getting lost in Home Depot, or not getting the customer service you desire, check out this new Ace Hardware. It's a good sized, well stocked store - but not warehouse sized. I've found they have pretty much everything I need for small projects around the house, and the friendliest, most helpful staff. Their prices are competitive, and the store is bright shiny and new.
