If you are considering adopting a pet, I would highly recommend visiting Save a Pet in Port Jefferson Station. They have a wonderful selection of cats, kittens, dogs and puppies in need of loving homes. You can feel good knowing you rescued a homeless pet (instead of supporting puppymills by purchasing at a pet store). Save a Pet Animal Rescue is a non-profit, no-kill facility. You can see available pets on www.petfinder.com
They treated the loss of our cat with dignity and respect, and while we were at the Little Shelter we saw firsthand how the staff strives tirelessly to help homeless pets find homes. It is comforting to know that the proceeds go to rescue homeless pets at the Little Shelter Animal Rescue and Adoption Center.
We recently catered a party with Bagel Boss, they put together excellent platters of cookies, bagels, appetizing, and salads. The guests enjoyed their food, and there were lots of yummy leftovers to enjoy. I was impressed that a representative called the next day to make sure everything was satisfactory.
A traditional bagel store, with bagels, egg sandwiches, smoked fish, etc. Bagels and a Whole Lot More distinguishes itself by making classic, perfectly prepared bagels. A perfect place to go to get a great breakfast bagel, or a dozen to take home! If you have out of town guests curious about what a New York bagel should taste like, this is the place to take them!
The Good Times Book Shop is a great source for out-of-print, rare, and scholarly books. If you are bored of the generic chain mega bookstores, visit this good old-fashioned bookshop! This store would be a great souce for a special gift, or, browse the isles and find an out of the ordinary book for yourself.
This is a good resource for asian groceries of all kinds. Check out the refrigerated section for prepared foods such as steamed buns and dumplings. This store is a good resource for vegetarian foods such as mock chicken and prepared tofu.
If you are not familiar with Asian foods, it is still definately worth a visit for out of the ordinary groceries, try something new.
Wild by Nature offers an extensive selection of natural foods, supplements, body care items, and household care products. Fresh produce and organic items, and baked goods are available. They are a bit overpriced for some items, though the selection and convenience compensate to a large degree. Definately a great alternative to your typical supermarket. They offer the wonderful Dagoba chocolate bars up by the register.
Village Natural Foods (now relocated to Port Jefferson Station) offers a large slection of health suppliments and natural bath and body care products. It is fun to search through the extensively stocked store! They also feature bulk herbs, great for making herbal/medicinal tea or natural potpourri. The store offers a limited selection of food items as well.
Ralphs Italian Ice offers the most wonderful cream and water ice. Innovative flavors, such as cotton candy, malibu bay breeze, mudslide, cannoli, peppermint patty are offered as well as traditional favorites cherry, lemon, and chocolate. A fun and refreshing treat on a hot summer day. The most difficult part is choosing from the ever-growing selection of flavors!
PROS: So yummy, many flavors to choose from!
Atlantis Marine World is the perfect size for a fun (and not too exhausting) family outing. They have a large tank with an Atlantis theme, beautiful exhibits of colorful fish, and a touch-and-feed exhibit. Catering (for wedding parties, corporate holiday parties etc) is available, and is a nice change of pace from the typical catering hall. Birthday parties can also be held in Atlantis Marine World. Explorer tour boat rides are offered, as well as the Discovery tower ride. They also have a new swim tank, a snow monkey habitat, and sea lion shows. See rescued seals happliy swimming in a pool by the entrance.
