I walked into Red White & Bubbly a tad exhausted and in need of a nice inexpensive wine and a quite night to myself. I was looking for a not-too-fruity white for a $9 or less. The gentleman very nicely told me of a few different wines, and honestly differnetiated the one's I'd most likely enjoy. Having taken his word, I discovered that i had only $8, and was about a dollar short. Prepaired to choose a different wine, he quelled my decision and took care of the diffence himself. That is customer service. Now, of course, it's my favorite place to buy wine. All of the staff is very helpful and attentive. They make great recomendations based one your tastes and food pairings. The store also holds classes for you to learn about wines, and tastings for showcase new arrivials and old favorites. This is the place in Park Slope to buy wine!
The BBu model project is an interesting way to look fabulous (at least for your hair) for free. Signing up, you go in for a consultation. If you're willing to let them do one or more of the bumble styles you're in. At your appoinment, an experienced stylist from anywhere in the country will turn your drab style into a fashionable style under the watchfull eye of Bumble's educators. They will show you about Bumble and Bumble's unique line of prodeucts, and teach you how to do the most with your new look. And if you have something specific in mind. Make an appointment at the salon (not free) for a great cut and look that fits you best.
PROS: Fun, free
Relaxed good vibes make Lolita good for any night of the week. Busy on wekends, it's a great place to get out and be social, slower durring the week it's a nice place to hang. Tables, couches, and a downstairs lounge with live music and poetry readings offer a comfee place for everyone's taste. Good drinks, good deals, good time.
Hernandez is perfect for first time furnishings and practicle fixtures. Not particularily artistic their furnature is simple and affordable. Great deals, seasional sales and generally low prices make this a great place to get the basics from beds to tables and futons.
Tent and Trails actually has good brands for almost any gear you'll need from climbing 'beaners and webbing to jackets for every adventure to backpacks, tents and sleeping bags. The overly cluttered store makes it very difficult to find anything, and the staff is hir or miss in helpfulness. The high turnover does nothing to guarentee knowledgable help or a staff that cares. If you know what exactly you are looking for, they can probably help you find it, but i don't recommed "blind" shopping. Their prices are decent for New York City, though don't wait for sales, they are few and far between.
Planning that great outdoor adventure trip, but need supplies? Only go to Paragon if you know exactly what you need; talking to the employees is a task of futility. Barely knowledgable and with huge attitudes the staff will sell you whatever they can whether or not it's what you need or they'll ignore you completely. The actual goods are not bad, a good variety of quality brands, though finding your size or color or style is more like digging through thrift store racks. You're better off shopping when you get to your destination!
PROS: Decent Brands
CONS: Poor Customer Service, horrible merchandising
Inspirational! Walking into Fun 2 Bead makes one feel like they could be an accessory designer. Need a neckalce to go with those unmatchable earrings? Find the bead and charms at Fun 2 Bead. Their variety is amazing, staff is creative and knowledgable and they have everything one needs to make any kind of jewelery.
The rumors of the sex museam left me with images of the history of human sexuality, like something off the history channel. WRONG! This "museam" is nothing more than a compilation of photo porn throughout history (the best part) with minimal plaques on how sexuality changed through the decades. The second floor is dedicated to sex in stag films. There is little actual research or history put into this museam. Apparently prior to the advent of photogrtaphy there were no depictions of sexuality or changes in social behavior. Over all very poorly done.
Wandering through the Garment district we happened upon Design by Nova, Inc. With places like Clairs and Girl Props cornering the market on less expensive costume jewelry, Nova's was a pleasent surprise. The walls are lined with Necklasses, bracelets, earrings, tiaras, and more. Jewelery heaven! The staff was very helpful, and nice even at closing! Their accessories were perfect for any outfit, not just teeny-boppers. Beautful fun desigens in a large variety of materials, with greatly competitive prices makes this a must shop place!
PROS: Variety, price
So much Fun! Remember the origional Charlie's Angels and Wonder Woman? Why not memorialize them with a framed picture or clock? Tees with popular "old" TV shows, attitude sayings. Lamps and furnature made out of recylced modern life. This store is a gallery from our pop culture past and NYC gift shop. Entertaining, the store creatively re-uses our pasts making the last 20 years not seem like a self-indulgant waste, but showing off our political sence of humor and capitolism-sell-you-anything at it's best.
