We have been eating at Big As for over 15 years and still love it. The seating is somewhat cramped but the food quality makes that worthwhile. Even though Big As is obviously as much sports bar as it is restaurant we are comfortable bringing our children along with us for lunch or dinner. Big As is my favorite place to go for hot wings. The sauce is good and spicy while still very flavorful. My other personal favorite item is the club sandwich served with waffle fries. If you go during happy hour time some menu items are half priced which makes things like the wings a really good deal.
Last spring I was part of a class reunion planning commitee and we hosted the reunion dinner in the private dining room at Big As. Our group was around fifty people and Big As did a great job of providing good food, great service and reasonable prices. We were very pleased at how everything turned out.
Everyone I talk to about Hobbes raves about how great their chicken is. Hobbes has a very small dining area and many people simply order their food to-go. Hobbes sell chicken fingers - not burgers, not tacos - just chicken fingers and they do the best job around on them. The chicken fingers are made with real pieces of chicken, not the ground up, processed chicken and have a wonderfully flavored breading. The food I have gotten has always been cooked when I ordered it so it is good and fresh although it does require a few minutes wait. Once you try Hobbes you'll soon be back again.
Aimee Bs is the perfect place to get together with friends for lunch. It really is designed with women in mind. The selections are geared more toward the type of food women order and serving portions are good but not large. I love eating here, my husband would not. During my most recent visit I had a salad and quiche. The salad was great and the quiche was excellent. The wait to get a table for four was about half an hour on a weekday at lunchtime but once we were seated we received prompt, fast service. They did have some nice gifts for sale on display in rooms on the upper floors but they were difficult to get to, especially if stairs are a challenge, and were so crowded that it was hard to enjoy browsing. They did have many unique items in stock. I also noticed that they had a tent assembled in the back of the restaurant and apparently are beginning to handle small weddings and similar events.
Mark Twain Hobby is the only place my husband shops for RC car parts and supplies. They carry kits for building your car and they also stock everything you need to customize the cars and replacement/upgrade parts. I, personally, was most impressed by the paints, decals, stencils and unfinished car bodies that I could use to create a personalized body for his car. The store also carries plenty of items for people who enjoy other hobbies. They stock a variety of speciality paints and supplies and a huge selection of trains and related supplies. The are the number one place in St. Charles County to shop for any hobby or model supplies. If they don't have it they will try to get it for you. The store has always had several employees available whenever I have shopped and each seems to have a speciality area so that an expert is always available to help answer questions. Mark Twain Hobby is a great place to shop or just browse.
Ribbons is a unique store and a wonderful place to shop I you do any type of sewing. They carry a very wide assortment of ribbons as the name implies but they do carry many other items. They stock many unique counted cross stitch and needlepoint kits which are often rather difficult to find. The ribbons they stock are great for a variety of projects, from simple bows and decorations to use in sewing and quilting. In addition to the sewing project supplies they also carry quite a few gift selections which are a perfect gift for a anyone who loves to sew. As you would expect, the prices are a bit higher than you find at the regular fabric store but it is worth the price to get the selection.
PROS: great selection
CONS: sometimes parking is a bit tricky on Main St.
I have not taken the time to begin learning the craft of glass work so I am not the expect to evaluate this store but I can say that it is a great place to shop. They have beautiful items on display and seem to carry and great assortment of supplies for people who do enjoy working with glass. I have shopped their with my aunt who has done alot of stained glass design and she was excited about the store. She is the type of person who would know about selecting good quality supplies and she made a purchase even though she would have to take it on a plane back home. At the time we were their they also were advertising that they offered classes.
Dick Blick is one of the places in St. Louis where the artists go to get their supplies. The selection is great and the staff are very helpful. It is not the place to go if you are looking to save money by purchasing inexpensive products because all of their supplies are top quality. I find Dick Blick a great place to shop when I have a special project I am working on and I need something specific that my nearby craft store would not carry.
I have recently heard some "not so good" information about understaffing at St. Joseph's but our last experience there in the emergency room was great. My husband was being treated for kidney stones. He received prompt attention and had the best er visit he has ever had. Every staff member who handled his treatment was helpful and caring as well as as professional. Definately great treatment.
When my husband broke his foot the emergency room physician referred us to Dr. Lord at St. Charles Orthopaedic. We were able to get an a.ppointment to see Dr. Lord the next day. All of the physicians in this office have a great reputation and we spoke with many friends who were treated their and have been happy. My husband was able to avoid surgery on his foot and after several visits was released. The office was always busy but they did keep to schedule well. Overall we were very happy with the treatment
Both my daughter and I have been patients of Advanced Dermatology. I also have friends who are patients there. Everyone I know who was had the opportunity to be treated by the doctor here has been very pleased. The staff and the doctor are caring people and they are understanding. I have had a variety of problems treated and my daughter was seen for facial breakouts. The treatments have been successful. The only complaint I have at all about this office is that they are so popular that it takes quite a long time to get an appointment if it is for a routine type visit.
