Fassbinder is really nice jewelry in the West Village. You wont find $5,000 diamond rings here nor will you find $20 rings either. A nice middle class ring store think a few hundred dollars for a really nice ring. The service is excellent, usually the store is manned by a young woman of European origin who is very friendly and helpful. The fellow who works there is very nice to and they are really helpful without being pushy. They have two rather large urns/vases? with pictures of Chairman Mao on them and I have no idea what they have to do with the rest of the store but I think they are funky.
Tiffanys is the world famous gem masters on Fifth Avenue. Four floors filled with much more than diamonds. They are also silversmiths of renown and much of there silverware is gorgeous. I like the jewelry they sell by designer Elsa Perretti. The service is great, the staff is very helpful and the elevator operator in the back is a very funny fellow who kids adore. Unlike Harry Winstons across the street Tiffanys is very browser friendly. Outside of the fact that everything is expensive I cant fault this store for anything else. Highly recommended.
PROS: great service and merchandise
CONS: very expensive
The Shape of Lies sells a line of interesting reproductions of old jewelry and other handmade items. The bookmarks with nice beadwork are my favorites and I also like some of the eyeglass cases and some of the necklaces. This store is pretty special and the staff are wonderful.
PROS: beautiful jewelry
CONS: erratic hours
The craftsmen at Asprey have been serving the British Royal family for over 100 years. They sell all manner of items, everything from jewelry, briefcases, picture frames and leather bound books. The merchandise is stunning to look at but the price tags will freak you out. Of course since they are located in the Trump Tower I guess I shouldn't really be all that surprised. The sales help are really nice and not in a superficial commission grabbing way either. They once served my litle 5 year old daughter a cup of tea for no particular reason except they seemed to have taken a shine to her. A top notch highly recommended store if you can affors it.
PROS: Great high quality merchandise
CONS: very expensive
The Ashione Art Gallery hs an eclectic collection of hand crafted art from the African continent. Everything from wood items and jewelry. The staff was very nice when I visited and explained to me what each piece I was interested in meant and where it was from and what materials were used to construct it.
No false name here. This shop really is filled to the brim with wedding rings of varying shapes, sizes and designs. Everything from gold bands to platinum rings with nice large diamonds. A really excellent mix. Thin sleek uber modern designs mix freely with rings your Grandmother would have loved as a young bride.
PROS: great rings
The Belenky family has been active selling jewelry in New York for many years. In its present shop carries a wide range of hip and trendy jewelry. Ten years from now some of this jewelry might seem a little dated but right now it looks great.
PROS: lots to see

H & M Clothing is the place to go in New York for designer like clothing at a fraction of the cost of the real thing. This is a European chain of stores that are just starting to come to America. The store is always jam packed which can be annoying but you can fill up a shopping bag for a reasonable amount of money.
Pierre Marcolini is one of the great pastry chef/chocolatieres of Belgium. His Park Avenue store serves chocolates and sorbets. The store is beautiful and the chocolates are as attractive as they are tasty. The salesstaff is friendly and the if you are into chocolate you will enjoy eating here.
