The pho is tasty and comes in a huge bowl, though I can't vouch for it's cleanliness. Face it, if you're going to buy pho, you're probably not going to get it from a pristine kitchen. The charbroiled pork over rice has been consistently good for about $7. Don't forget to try their strawberry and avocado shakes.
I'm a beer lover from Germany, and I do think their beer is great ? quite an oasis in Budweiser country! I recommend their unfiltered Pilsener. Plus their prices are *very* reasonable: $3.75 for half a liter (about a pint) of freshly brewed gourmet beer is a good deal. On a side note, their menu misspells the names of some beers, such as "Hefe Weizen" opposed to "Hefeweizen". Still tastes good, though!
I've eaten at both Fuzio and Pasta? and I think this is the only Italian restaurant at Davis I will return to. I had a simple dish, but my friends had more complex food, and all of it was very tasty. The service was nice, too. They let us sample some pizzas they were thinking of putting on the menu. I really liked the seafood pizza ... as gross as that may sound. The prices were fair and the atmosphere was cute. I should be back.
Strangely unauthentic Italian food for a restaurant owned and operated by real Italians. But for an American audience, it beats Olive Garden or Strings. I had the Penne Norcina, which was pretty tasty. The coffee (by that I mean espresso) is better than most restaurants or for that matter most cafes in Davis. They use Miscela d'Oro coffee. My shot was pretty good, though a little long. Overall pretty decent, but it is what it is.
As a regular of Jade Garden, I know that they changed owners about a year ago. The food seems to be just as good, but they definitely lost the friendly atmosophere that was there with the previous owners. No longer am i greeted by name and spoken to other than to order and such. I miss the family, neighborhood feel of the original ownership.
the lunch specials are huge, and cheap. But the quality was almost at the level of a panda express, wok and roll, or mr chans. it seems like fast food chinese quality with larger portions and nice decour. the meals ive had here were generally cheap enough so that i payed in cash, however the thing about the tax seems odd. tax is charged by the city or state, and is a fixed rate, so if they are charging more for tax they are pocketing it.
I've been here twice and it's pretty decent as far as Davis chinese food goes. I don't really know of any chinese restaurant that's consistently good in Davis. But the people are always nice to me when I've gone (I was under dressed, which I know is hard to do). As far as food goes, the only memorable dish I've had are the crab won tons; they're different from the ones at Sophia's in that Sophia's uses crab meat, and Ding How uses a crab sauce; both are equally good, though. Otherwise, the food is overwhelmingly similar to any other average chinese restaurant in Davis. Another compliment about the service, though, is that they'll actually PUT the food in the to-go box instead of leaving it on the table for you to scoop it in yourself.
The Silver Dragon is located in the heart of downtown Davis. They easily have THE best Chinese food in town. The environment is great with plenty of windows to brighten up the whole place. The food is delicious and at a reasonable price (especially with the "Davis inflation"). A definite place to check out.
For the price, I'd pick a different Japanese joint to eat at. I've ordered an obento box here once, and boy did they skimp on the sesame chicken. The portions for each section of the obento box were quite small. Taste-wise, it wasn't that great either. There are definitely a lot more choices for Japanese restaurants I'd pick before going here.
"Home of the Super Giant Burrito!" is their slogan. And believe you me, it is ginormous. The super giant burrito is about 10 bucks and can feed two or three people (one if you're related to Kobayashi - the world's eathing champion). Anyway, the burritos are delicious and at a very reasonable price. Definitely worth a visit just for the super giant burrito experience.
