Surf Country is a great place to go to whether you're an experienced surfer or someone who is just looking to get into the sport. They offer beginner packages that can save you a great deal of money. The selection isn't the largest, but you'll still probably find what you're looking for. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable and they are willing to give lots of pointers to the beginners. They carry most brands of surf and skate wear at reasonable prices.
Coast Transport provides insurance for commercial trucking. The policies that they provide are decent, but they can also be obtained from other insurance agents with much better customer service. The women who work in the office processing the certificates of insurance and answering phone calls are very polite and helpful, but the owner is another story entirely. I belive his name was Scott. He was insulting, standoffish and downright rude after he failed to return my phone calls three times. I would advise you to either avoid dealing with this irrational man or seek insurance elsewhere. Even one of his own employees told me that all the women there can't stand him and his pushy attitude.
The Cat House provides boarding for your cats while you're on vacation or away. The facility is set up so that the cats can be put into their own kennel, or if they are a social cat, they can roam free and play with the other cats in the extensive play area that makes up most of this facility. They are generally pretty busy, but they always seem to be able to make room for my cats, even at the last minute. The prices are great, the staff is loving and wonderful. I always feel comfortable leaving my babies there and knowing there are some wonderful women making sure they're fed and played with.
Scavenge is a huge store filled with "stuff" of all kinds. They have clothing for men and women, shoes, housewares, cosmetics, jewelry, and every kind of novelty you can imagine. If you're looking for a strange or gag gift, this is definitely the place to come. They have some really unique items, for example, last time I shopped there I ended up walking away with: star patterned shoelaces, black bandaids with skulls on them, a candle holder shaped like Elvis, sparkly barettes, a pair of platform shoes, a lace camisole and a pirate shaped car air freshener.
Carmichael Elementary School is old, outdated and rather run down. The campus has had to expand several times and now also includes several portable classroom buildings. The condition of the school itself is not, however, reflected upon the academic curriculum or the quality of the teachers in this school. They are exceptional, and they are willing to put in lots of time to ensure that your child will be successful. Carmichael Elementary School has an extensive English-as-a-Second-Language program, and many students come to the school not knowing how to speak English at all. There is a large population of Ukrainian and Russian children at this school.
The Beat is a great place in Sacramento to get all kinds of music, especially cds of local bands and cds that you might not be able to find at the more mainstream stores. The Beat has a very laid back atmosphere and the staff is very knowledgable about all kinds of music and are eager to help you find what you need or to suggest a new recommendation. They buy and sell music, so bring in your old cds to swap for credit towards some new ones.
Dimple Records has several other locations around town, but the Citrus Heights store is the best. The store sells both new and used music, so bring in your old CDs to exchange for credit towards some new ones. They have a large variety of all kinds of music, DVDs, and rock memorabilia. The staff really knows a lot about music, and they always have tons of flyers and posters about upcoming shows around town. You could spend a long time browsing all the aisles here.
SunSplash has much more to offer families than just the water slides that typically come to mind, which also explains why this place is always crowded. They also offer miniature golf, laser tag, and a full arcade with all of your favorite games. The prices are reasonable, the location is safe, the staff is friendly and accessable, and there is ample parking. You could easily spend a full day at this park. Kids of all ages will love SunSplash.
Kovar's is the most reknown karate academy in the Sacramento area. They have expanded over the years and now offer several locations throughout the great Sac area. The owners, Dave and Tim Kovar, are educated in both business and martial arts. Kovars offers a blend of Tae Kwon Do and Kenpo, with other classes focusing on kickboxing, Mui Thay, and Jui Jitsu. The instructors are kind, patient and well trained. They have classes for ages 4 and up. The prices are comparable to other academies, but include all belt testing fees as well.
River Rat is the longest standing raft rental establishment in this area of the American River. Such long years of service make them fast and reliable at what they do. Raft rental costs vary based on the size of the raft and the number of people, and life jackets are included in the cost. The river is mild, class II rapids at most, and rafting is a perfect activity for families of all ages and sizes. River Rat will shuttle rafters to the drop off location, and then will pick them up at the pull out and back to River Rat to return the rafts and retrieve their vehicles. Great service and friendly staff.
