Marinellos Beauty College
The haircuts are only $6 at this location and that includes shampoo. They are all done by students, but the teachers are always there to help and give advice. They also do perms, colors, highlights, facials, nails, and make up. But you have to remember that they are all students and you are their assignments for the day.
PROS: Cheap!
CONS:
Mitsuwa Marketplace
Unlike Marukai, this supermarket is free (no annual membership!) The aisles were clean, it's always very well stocked and the sales are pretty good. They also have extra 10% off for seniors on Monday-Wednesdays. The big food court area has freshly made Japanese food. It's always pretty busy during lunch time.
PROS: No membership
CONS:
Legacy Cleaners
I left a pair of jeans to be hemmed in the morning and the girl said that it would be ready by 5 pm. I came back at 6 pm and it hadn't even been touched yet. The girl said that it would be ready by tomorrow at 11 am. I came in at noon and again, it hadn't been touched yet. She said that it would be ready at 5 pm. Surprise! Not ready yet again!! I asked them how many times I had to come back in for it to be ready. The manager said that it would be ready first thing tomorrow and that it would be no charge. Their prices are pretty good, but they're unreliable.
Torrance Family Practice
I don't know if the long waits are due to bad doctors or bad receptionist. The other patients that I talked to while waiting said that they ALWAYS wait over 1 hour each visit to be seen, sometimes 2 hours. That's not acceptable in my book. The doctors are also not very friendly and her writing was soo awful that the pharmacy had to call to ask what the heck she wrote because they had no clue what she wrote. I looked at it too and it was pretty bad.
PROS:
CONS: Long wait
Doggie Land
No Cage Kennel: Is that an oxymoron? I've taken my dog there twice and my dog comes home exhausted! I guess since there are no cages and the dogs are constantly moving and interacting with each other. They move around in packs and they don't take too many breaks! He also comes home filthy because the staff uses water to spray the dogs when they get too aggressive and dirt and water equals mud on your dogs. They are more expensive than other dog kennels, due to the fact that they don't use any cages.
PROS: No cages, free open space
CONS: dog comes home dirty
L A Fitness Sports Club
This gym is one of the cleanest that I have ever been to. The showers are clean and the locker area always has somebody in there cleaning or restocking the amenities. There's a pool, jacuzzi (at least in the women's locker room) sauna, raquetball court, and a basketball court. The group fitness classes are pretty good and the teachers are young. There's a lot of yoga and cycling classes if you're into those classes. The facility isn't too crowded, even at peak times, and there's plenty of parking spaces. The only negative is that the trainers and the front desk workers aren't all that friendly, but since I don't see them or interact with them all that too much, it's ok.
PROS: Clean!
CONS: Unfriendly trainers and front desk staff.
Redondo Shores Veterinary Ctr
Dr. Yelinek is friendly and is very good with my new dog. His office workers are also very friendly and remembered me and my pet on our next visit. My dog got neutered there and they were very compassionate and caring. The office is clean and well maintained and the atmosphere is friendly and homey.
Farmer's Market
I love coming to this location for my fruits and vegetable needs. The neighborhood isn't that great, but at least they now have adequate parking. The stalls are covered and it's open until 9 PM on the weekdays, which is good for those that work. The vendors are friendly and there's lots of other non-produce stalls that sell food and souveniers for visitors.
PROS: World Famous, Long Hours
CONS: Bad Neighborhood
El Camino Community College
ECC has one of the best undergraduate study program in the South Bay. The classes are offered both in the morning and at night and there's everything from Bio Chem to Portrait Photography classes offered. The school is laid back and the classes are varied and fun. Excellent place to begin your education or to finish with your AA and the teachers are all very helpful and professional.
PROS: Varied Classes, Great Location
CONS: Crowded
Book Again
If you're a bookworm like me, it's a great place to trade your used paperbacks for more used paperbacks. The store is small, so you can look through everything that they have in a timely manner. The books are ususally very well kept and it's fun to just browse through what they have. They have specials and they buy back your used books for credit towards your next purchase.
PROS: Small and Cozy
CONS: NA
