Austin Zoo
If you are looking for something for the kids to do, and don't want to drive far, this is the ideal place to go - assuming it's not 100 degrees or more outside. My son loved it; especially getting to pet and feed the animals. Another thing you don't have to worry about is fighting the crowds. Check it out!
PROS: Small, locally owned, no crowds
CONS: none
Howdy Honda
We purchased our CRV from them because they had the best price for it in town. We were not harassed by the salesperson and we didn't feel pressured at all to make the purchase. He seemed to be very honest from what we could tell, and was very helpful and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend this dealership. We have been very happy with our CRV and will probably purchase our next Honda from this dealership.
PROS: Friendly, knowledgeable sales people
CONS: none
dell diamond
I'm not the biggest baseball fan, but I still enjoy attending a Round Rock Express game. There are many things to keep the kids entertained if they get restless - even for the teens. The snack bar is a little expensive, but to be expected at an event like this one. The park is clean and well maintained. Just a short drive from Austin!
PROS: Fun for everyone
CONS: Expensive snack bar
SAN ANTONIO ZOO
Great place to take the kids. Would not recommend going in the middle of summer with the Texas heat. If you want to see all the animals, go when it is cooler. They tend to hide out in their cave if it's too hot. Great family fun at a great price!
PROS: Fun for the whole family, reasonable prices
CONS: Too hot in mid summer
Barton Springs Pool
Cold, cold, cold! Must be expected when the water comes from natural springs. We took my 1 1/2 year old niece, and she was uncomfortable with the water at first, but she loved it once she got used to it. The shallow part of the pool is VERY slippery due to the moss on the bottom. I would recommend the pool for the kids (and adults) who are able to swim in deeper parts of the pool.
There is also an awesome place to wade in the water right outside the pool area where the water flows out. A lot of people bring their dogs to that area, but if you go further down the river you can find a pet free place.
Another attraction is the train that goes around the park. It is a 25 minute ride for a very cheap price. If you get hungry or thirsty, there is a place right outside the pool area that sells snow cones, hamburgers, etc.
Awesome, cheap, family fun! Check it out!
PROS: Fun for the whole family
CONS: None
Creekside Apartments
My husband and I lived in Creekside Apartments with a roommate. We lived in a two bedroom two bath unit. In the master bathroom we had a leak in the ceiling (we lived on the bottom floor) above the bathtub. The maintenance department claimed it was from the upstairs neighbor "not shutting the shower curtain correctly and letting water drip on the floor". To make a long story short, they ended up cutting a hole in our ceiling and left it there for two months. We moved out before they even fixed the problem. We had several instances where we would submit a request to the maintenance department and they would not get to it right away. The complex itself is pretty clean - they are good about keeping up the appearance. The staff is friendly and the prices are a little above average. Would not recommend living here unless you absolutely have to.
PROS: Close to university, neat appearance
CONS: Maintenance response time, price
Childrens Orchard
I have had a positive experience with Children's Orchard so far. The selection is great for both girl and boy. I found several onesies for $1.99 or less. They run several different sales a month (extra 25 and even 50% off original price). The clothes seem to be of good quality. I did notice they don't have much of a selection (if any at all) of other baby items such as strollers, cribs, etc. Check it out!
PROS: Good quality clothes, friendly staff, reasonable prices
CONS: Congested sales floor
Kid's Club
My 4 year old son has been attending this daycare since he was 5 months old. Overall, it has been a descent daycare facility. The staff is very friendly, the price includes meals for children 2 years and up, and the hours are 7 am - 6:30 pm M-F.
They also have an after school program which, in some cases, will pick up your child from surrounding schools and take them to the daycare facility until you can pick them up after work.
The only complaints I can see is the employee turnover rate for some of the classes. My son is on his third preschool teacher for the past year.
PROS: Preschool/Pre-K classes and After School program
CONS: Employee turnover rate in the preschool class
Austin Regional Clinic: ARC Anderson Mill
I have had a positive experience with this clinic so far. Aside from the friendly staff, and great service (no waiting for more than 15 minutes), there is an after hours clinic open until 8:00 pm 7 days a week at the Far West clinic, and nurses available to answer questions 24 hours a day by phone. Really helps when you are a first time parent and are constantly needing answers about your baby.
The only thing that I am unimpressed with is not being able to make a next day appointment. I have called several times to try and make an appointment for the next day, only to be turned down because most of their time slots are for same day appointments. That means you get to wait on hold the next morning for 10 minutes.
Overall, I would highly recommend this clinic.
PROS: Friendly staff, after hours clinic
CONS: Not able to make next day appointment
Anderson Mill Baptist Church
This is the place to go if you are searching for a new church home.
They have wonderful children's, youth, and adult ministries, as well as a ministry for the senior community.
There are also outreach programs on Tuesday nights, Bible study and music opportunities on Wednesdays, and AWANA programs that are due to begin in September.
Great music and great sermons every week - what more could you ask for?
Come see for yourself.
PROS: Nice people, great pastor, ministries for everyone
CONS: None
