Mall At Steamtown
This mall is pretty nice, but I usually only go here for a specific purpose, such as a really good deal. Otherwise it isn't worth the hassle of going into downtown Scranton and dealing with the tight parking spaces. Today, I went to the Boscovs because they had really good deals on curtains. Boscovs is one of my favorite department stores, so that draws me to this mall. The other department store here is Bon Ton, which isn't that great. The rest of the stores in this mall are OK but nothing to rave about. I do like the free samples at Getrude Hawks. They could clean some areas of the mall a little better also.
VCA Dunmore Animal Hospital
This is a really nice vet now that they moved to a new building site. Everything is really bright, clean and modern. The equipment is up to date and well kept. The vets make me and my pets feel at ease because they are knowledgable and know exactly what treatments to recommend for any problems. I really appreciate the extra time they put in with me to reassure me when I worry about my pets. They are older so I am often concerned about their declining health. The costs here are about what I have been used to in the past.
Ritter's Farm Market
I like going here for the fresh fruits and vegetables at the farmers market. It is also a nice day out to go and pick apples and strawberries. In the fall they have hay rides and you can pick your own pumpkins. There are a lot of fresh baked goods such as pies, muffins and cookies. I have purchased the apple and pumpkin pies around fall and they are excellent. It is really pretty area to visit around the fall and it is a relatively inexpensive and fun day out. Highly recommended if you like farmers market and fresh fruits and veggies.
Cinema 6
This is the only local movie theater for people in Hawley and Honesdale. They usually have around six titles playing at a time, which are current and pretty good selections. The tickets are pretty expensive here at around $9 a ticket the last time I went. Since this used to be a grocery store, they had to make due with limited space here, and seating is somewhat cramped and uncomfortable. Don't expect to find stadium seating or state of the art sound systems here. And avoid it at all costs when the camps come in during the summer. They fill the place up with noisey kids.
Betz, Amy H, Md - Pediatric Practices Of Ne Pa
We have been bringing my son to this doctor since he was born and we are generally satisfied with their practice. The wait is usually not very long and they have a separate waiting area for sick and well patients. The doctors are pretty friendly and knowledgable. We see one of the only male doctors at the practice and he is really good at giving advice that works for various problems. He is patient and good at listening and explaining solutions. This practice also has a 24 emergency line which we haven't used yet, but its good to know its there.
The Settlers Inn
This is a nice place to go for special occasions. It is pretty expensive at upwards of $20 a plate per person. They serve excellent fresh baked breads here with each dinner and the waitstaff is very attentive. There are somewhat limited dinner options, especially for vegetarians. They mostly have American style meat dishes available. The building is very impressive and it sits next to the Hawley park, so it is nice to walk around the area either before or after dinner.
Spring Garden
This Chinese food place is better to go to for dinner than it is for lunch. It is a little bit more expensive for dinner than buffets usually are at around $8-9 a person. The food is pretty fresh and they have a decent selection. The one thing is, sometimes they don't have too much seafood available. I purchased food here from the buffet to go once and I felt that I was overcharged, so I wouldn't do this again. There is no way to see how many pounds they are charging you for. Overall I enjoy going here for the occassional dinner.
Hunan Restaurant
I went here and ordered from here often when I was a student at West Chester University. They have a really good vegetarian selection, including my favorite dish with is vegetarian General Tsao's. The prices are a little on the pricey side for Chinese food since the servings sizes have shrunk over the years. The buffet looks so-so, but I have never gotten it before. It is pretty cheap at around $5 for lunch, but the selection isn't too wide and they don't restock the food trays as much as they probably should.
Celebrity Resorts Hawley
My wife and I stayed here on a few occasions, one of which was the night we were married. It is a cute, very old fashioned restaurant which is within walking distance of town but feels like it is really out in the country. There is a nice view from the lobby and some of the rooms of a water fall. The restaurant serves excellent food and the rooms are nicely decorated and well appointed. It isn't as modern as some hotels since it is over a hundred years old, but we didn't feel like anything was missing. It is pricey at upwards of $150 a night, but nice for a special occasion.
Judys Hairway to Heaven
My in laws live in this area, so this is where my wife and her brides maids went to have their hair styled for our wedding. They did a really nice job on her hair. It was pinned up and styled very nicely, and she was very satisfied with their work. The bridesmaids hair turned out nice as well, and they all got the styles they specified. I know that we paid for everyone's hair to be styled that day and the prices were pretty reasonable, within the $30 range for each person. My wife often recommends her friends and acquantences to have their hair cut and styled here.
