International Quilt Festival presents several events primarily displaying quilts. The International event is held at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, TX the last weekend of Oct, or the 1st weekend in Nov. It is open for wholesale 3 days, and the general public for 3 days. It offers classes from renowned teachers, and artists for a week during this time. You can purchase items, find vendors, and books unavailable anywhere else. You will be inspired till the next year rolls around. Wear comfortable shoes, and go early to one of the many eateries. You can also see quilting displays, embellishments, accessories, and all.

Correct name is Le Ragge Ruggs. They originally sold the ends of bolts to crochet into rag rugs. This is now an outlet for designers, and homeowners for fabric for draperies, slipcovers, bedding, and more. Designers have done examples of drapes, and several settings to inspire you. They custom make drapes, slipcovers, and bedding. Unusual furniture, accessories, trims, and gifts are available for sale.
Quilt Store Inc
The Quilt Store is a medium size store packed with a vast collection of fabrics available for quilting, or sewing. Great selection of floral, Chinese, black-white, children's prints, and more for quilting. Prices are high, but selection is great. Bring your samples to match, your selection is so great. The classroom is next door, and has cool quilts on display. Take a class, and learn more than you'd imagine.
Cap City Comedy Club
Cap City Comedy Club has a great location-right off 183, and they have lots of shows. They have a non-smoking show at 8 pm, and offer a later show that is for both smoking and non-smoking. The food is great-especially the nachos, and they offer coupons in the entertainment book for discounts. They do have a 2 drink minimum which is pretty steep though.
Austin Childrens Museum
The Austin Children's Museum is a good place for the younger ones to explore, early in the morning when they offer the baby bloomers program. During the day, the museum is really load and filled with kids from daycares and schools. They are very hands on, and the exhibits allow children to explore on their own, and have some help by the museum staff if they need it. It is a good place to spend a hot summer day with the grandkids too.
