Inner Space Cavern
Inner Space Caverns is about 20 minutes north of Austin. If you visit their website, they offer coupons for discounts on tickets. They have a really neat cave tour, and also have a mining station to pan for gemstones. It is a great experience for the whole family. Be sure to visit the candle factory across the highway too!
NATIONAL MUSEUM OF THE PACIFIC WAR
The Nimitz Museum/National Museum of the Pacific War in Fredricksburg is great for kids and adults alike. They have an indoor and outdoor museum, with tanks, boat models, and movies about the war. The tickets are cheap-$5 a person, and the museum is large, so there are many things to do and see while you are there. It is spread out, but starts on Main Street.
Texas State Aquarium
The Texas State Aquarium in Corpus is great. It is right on the water, just a little bot down the shoreline from the USS Lexington Battleship. The dolphin show is neat, and you can get up close to many of the animals, including sting rays-you can reach in and touch them. They have a nice viewing deck to view the ocean from too.
HERMAN PARK TRAIN
The Herman Park Train in Houston is located right next to the Houston Zoo. The train costs only $2.25 a ticket to ride, and the ride takes you around Herman Park, and the large lake in the middle. The train has been around a long time, and it is so relaxing to watch the people in the park and the paddle boats on the lake. Great experience for all ages-right at the Houston Zoo!
SAN ANTONIO ZOO
The San Antonio Zoo is only about an hour away from Austin, nestled in a quiet area of the city. The zoo is open 365 days a year, and has a carousel ride outside the zoo. There is alot of shade, and a huge variety of animals to see. The zoo is very clean, and the tickets are affordable.
El Mercado General Store
El Mercado is a trolley ride away from the Rivercenter Mall in San Antonio. There are many little shops inside, and great music outside. The food from the outdoor vendors is great, and there is a wonderful restaurant in walking distance-Mi Tierras. The market has great leather goods, and we always find something new when we go.
Waterloo Records & Video
Waterloo Records is located right next to Waterloo Ice House on Lamar. They offer local music, and also carry harder to find music and videos. The staff there is very helpful and the music selection is awesome. The prices are great for the cds and dvds too. They are always able to fill my special requests too
Mi Tierra & Bakery
Mi Tierra's is awesome! They are open all of the time, 24 hours a day 365 days a year. The bakery is great, and the staff have a very efficient system for taking orders. The pecan pralines are to die for! The restaurant is always busy, but it is huge and the wait is never very long. The inside is covered in Christmas twinkle lights, pinatas, and Mexican decor. The food is great and priced just right!
Lucy In Disguise W/ Diamonds
Lucy is Disguise is a great costume shop where you are likely to find just what you need. They offer some great quality costumes and you can either rent or buy them. They are pretty pricey though, so be sure it is what you want, and that you can't find it anywhere else. The staff is great at helping sizing and they explain the rental agreement really well.
Renaissance at North Bend
The Renaissance Apartments are located right off Parmer Lane and Metric Blvd. They are only a few minutes away from I35 and Mopac. They have great, a very large pool, clean gym, and the apartment sizes are excellent for the price. Our 3rd floor apartment has a great gas fireplace, and the kitchen is very spacious. We also had a walk in closet.
