As the title implies, the SILVER SPIDER is an unique a store as its name implies....a store filled with one of a kind items, cards, gifts, personal items, handbags, small "thinking of you" gifts and so much more! While I have shopped in many places and many countries, I really was impressed with this store and its uniqueness! It is definitely worth checking out....I think once you do you will agree that is is like its name...one of a kind!
PROS: ....interesting wares!
CONS: ....some items are "one of a kind" so grab them while you can
This museum is one of my favorites as though it is small, it is filled with history of the area galore and one leaves it knowing so much more about the people who lived here than before! My favorites of this museum are the items the people made for their families. The wedding clothing in particular though plain and every day looking to modern "us", is actually art in itself with the tiny hand stitch items and the fact that from the beginning of the construction of the pieces, love and patience was the wordo f the day. Each item was created from the bottom up and were obviously "labors of love" on the parts of the makers. Other items are displayed as well but I won't list them except it say that it is a definite step back into time to a place where simple ws the key and beauty came from love and hard labor. Check out this place...it is a gem in the rough and a museum not to be missed!
PROS: ..interesting history, items and artfacts galore
This is a favorite of my youngest son as he rather enjoys the different types and displays of art exhibited here. From African masks and a dazzling array of metal works as well, the time spent here for him is a happy one and one that changes often with different exhibits. My oldest son however did not have such a good experience here and it has scarred him I'm afraid for quite awhile. When he was in pre-school he liked this museum as well but one day an over anxious guard screamed at him and accused him of touching a work of art. Needles to say my son was frightened and though alomst 10 years have passed, he is not interested anymore in this museum. Though I do not know if this guard still is there I will caution those who visit to be careful that their child is not scarred as my child has been. Visit but visit with care....and as always, this is only one persons opinion.
PROS: nice displays....beautiful art
CONS: over anxious guards can frighten children
This is a wonderful museum found on 5th street in Coralville, Iowa. Located in a school house of the "one room" kind, this museum is a great step back into the hisotry, education and lives of Johnson County citizens and children so many years ago. A great favorite of schools in the area for field trips (nearby Coralville Central can actually WALK here!) this museum is fun for kids and adults alike as they experience first hand the way children so many years ago received theri education. Mark this on your "must see" list for you and your kids...I promise you will enjoy the experience as much as they do!
PROS: ...great step back into the past!
Dawn's has a great array of beads...glass...pottery...hand made...semi-precious jewels...and the array of colors is not to be believed. the beads are beautifully displayed in various containers, showing a rainbow of colors, textures, sizes and shapes. The prices, while on the high side, are reasonable when you think about the other options in the area for beads...poor to say the least. BUT...(and you knew there was going to be a "but")...the customer service here is poor. I have been in this business on more than one occasion, but on all of those visits I have left wondering if they really wanted my business or if I "bothered" them by visiting the shop. This is of course my opinion and while I now order online all of my beads, you might want to check out this store if you only need a small amount of beads...it is hardly worth S&H to order only a few. As always it is your decision...just my opinion...happy shopping!
PROS: beautiful array and lots of choices
CONS: ...poor customer service
This is another one of those stores that you should do some background upon as to their prices, approximate delivery times and materials available BEFORE you enter their business. for while they are a top quality business and I have done business with them in the past I am quick becoming very picky about who I use and how much I spend when it comes to business such as these. And is you think about it, you don't have to spend an arm and a leg these days for top quality items...check them out and choose for yourself.
PROS: good business...nice work
CONS: do research on prices etc before you buy
I was in the area awhile ago and I stumbled upon this store on 1st avenue. I was a bit leary about checking it out as my past experiences have left me wondering about "boutiques" and their prices. I think I should have listened to my little voice of caution. For while the jeans are nice here (and the other items as well) they are a bit on the pricey side and though they do fit well, I have to be honest and admit I have found jeans elsewhere that have fit as well and at at least half the price! So it is as always up to you...check it out as you will. Happy shopping!
PROS: nice items
CONS: a bit on the pricey side
I have frequented this store a number of times and though I must admit that they DO have some nic eitems, are relatively quick in their turn-around, it would be remiss of me if I was not honest and forthright about the cost of this store. The cost can be a bit intimidating and since ther are other options in the area for this type of business I sould suggest that you give thema call before you make the trip to settle on a price for that which you are looking to purchase. Several times I have checked elsewhere and ahve saved quite a bit. Once again, this is just my opinion...use it or lose it as you will.
PROS: nice work
While I am a bit past wearing "trendy" clothing there is the odd occasion that I frequent these stores looking for a gift to send to my niece (having only boys, such a shopping trip can be a real treat for me! :-) ) As I was in C.R. a short itime ago I decided to check out this store. Located on Wiley Blvd it is fairly easy to find...just take the proper turn off on the main drag in town and it practically screams at you to come on in and take a look!
Looking wasn't a problem here for me...buying was. While I enjoyed the cute trendy items they had for sale for the pre-teen, teenage set (with some I guess would fit older gals though I have no idea HOW.)..I was a bit dismayed at some of the prices. I am a consumate bargain hunter and to be totally honest here I thought some of the prices rather steep and a bit out of the league of the average parent looking for a trendy bargain. But then again if you are looking for the latest trend and don't care about price...this is the place to go. With a decent clearance rack or two and styles that would make the most "in" girl in your life happy....Cato could very well be the place you are looking for. Check it out and decide for yourself if it fits your need and your budget and until then...happy shopping!
PROS: ...nice trendy clothing...up to date
CONS: ...a bit on the pricey side
I found this place while wandering near the post office one day. I honestly had forgotten about reviewing it until I found some of their products while searching in a cupboard for another article. I had purchased some extras for gifts and had not used them all...stashing the rest away for little old me! Immediately I remembered the natural products offered in their store, the clean smell of their soaps and the WONDERFUL softness the lip balm and lotions left me with. I also must admit that being somewhat of a "bargain hunter" their prices impressed me...enough in fact that I purchased quite a number of their soaps for gifts to family and friends. MY opinion is this...the next time you are in the area of 9th Ave SE I urge you to look (and look hard...their store isn't exactly easy to spot) and stop in and visit Raining Rose. I promise you won't be disappointed...I know I wasn't! Happy shopping!
PROS: ...nice natural products at a decent price
CONS: ...could be hard to spot if you aren't looking for it!
