After being very dissatisfied with another daycare, a popular chain, I began searching all over for a better daycare for my son. We found Sun Tykes to have more caring staff, smaller groups, and my son was much happier here than at the other location. They gave us weekly progress type reports and made sure he was getting enough to eat (picky eater). I felt much better sending him here. That has been a few years so hopefully things haven't changed in a negative way. I really appreciated their flexibility with my schedule as well and their prices were very reasonable.
PROS: smaller preschool, better child-instructor ratios
CONS: not much parking out front
We are sending our son here through open enrollment, after researching and visiting many schools and several districts. We were impressed by Brisas and began sending our son there thru the full day kindergarten program. He loved it so much! His teacher was amazing! Now he's in 2nd grade and little brother will go there next year. It's a ways to drive but worth it for a great education. The people there are wonderful and the students are a great bunch of kids and obviously have parents who care. They have many school programs including preschool, kids care for before and after school, gifted program, after school activities.
PROS: Wonderful school, kids are learning a lot and having fun.
CONS: I have to drive about 10 miles each way to get there.
My kids have visited Pump It Up twice. The staff is friendly and the playtime is fun for the kids. They have two rooms full of giant inflatables. They can slide, climb, play ball, and bounce! There are nice restrooms and a water fountain available. They have open bounce times where you can go in and pay a fee to play for a while. You can also reserve it for a party, which we did. The kids had plenty of time to play and then went to a party room for cake and presents. While the birthday child opens presents s/he sits on a big inflatable thrown. We thought the prices were pretty reasonable and even lower than other similar places.
PROS: fun inflatables, cool place to play
CONS: very limited parking in front
The City of Chandler's Desert Breeze Park has about everything you could possibly need in a park. There's a nice, big playground and has a separate sand area. It has a shaded picnic area under a walking bridge nex to the playground. It's right beside the DB Railroad and there's a lake nearby so you can feed ducks or even go fishing I think. The big hit for summer is the splash park on the other side of the playground. There are animal sculptures that shoot out water for the little ones to splash in and cool off. This park also has swings, several covered picnic areas and good parking in different parts of the park.
PROS: This park has it all!
CONS: Sometimes it's just too hot to go.
The Desert Breeze Railroad has a really fun ride for the kids (and grownups) that takes them around the perimeter of the Desert Breeze Park in Chandler. Kids will crowd into the popular caboose, but there are many seats available that give better views. You'll hear the "toot" of the whistle and it feels pretty authentic. If your child is below a certain height you'll have to ride along. Cost is reasonable and you can buy a ticket book for cheaper tickets. They have a snack bar and carousel with a few 50cent rides if you have to wait for the train to come around. You can host birthday parties here too. Hours vary due to the season.
PROS: gives kids the feel of riding a train, pretty inexpensive
CONS: you might have to wait a little while, but there's a playground right there
I do a lot of shipping and couldn't believe the great rates at FedEx, using their ground rates. You get a tracking number, insurance up to $100 included, and a great price for shipping. If I have any package over 2# I go to FedEx. Since they have joined with Kinko's, now you can come in and ship out your item using ground at any time of the day. They used to have more limited hours. I find their service dependable and affordable.
PROS: unbeatable prices for shipping using ground rate
CONS: waiting in line to ship, usually not long though
Jeepers, Jungle Jim's Playland, is a really fun place to play with the kids, if you don't mine all the noise. Basically they have an indoor amusement park with about 7 rides. The wristband is pretty cheap, considering you can ride as many times as you want. The age level for the rides is probably elementary age, the older kids might be a little bored. Jeepers also offers a free playground area, it could use some cleaning. There are many arcade games and you get tickets for prizes when you play. There's also a snack/eating area with pizza and other foods. You can have birthday parties here for a reasonable rate too. We really enjoy spending the day here with the kids.
PROS: Lots of entertainment for a low price. No entry fees.
CONS: Noisy, bring some tylenol. It's big so keep an eye on your kids.
We went shopping at many different furniture stores this summer but were very impressed with the values and quality we found at Ashley Furniture. The salespeople we met were not high pressure. We purchased 2 sofas which took about 3 weeks to deliver. We were able to test the microfiber's durability immediately as one of the delivery men left a big sweaty, dirty hand print on the side of the stone colored sofa. Amazingly it wiped right off with water. We did have to have a customer service person come to our home to perform some minor repairs to the fabric, which was bunched up at the bottom. Overall we were pretty satisfied with the merchandise and the customer service.
PROS: quality furniture at hard to beat prices
CONS: good financing only if you spent a LOT of money
This is a great book store. We really like the children's section, there is seating available so your child can look over the books first before picking out something to purchase. I also really like their summer reading program, where you pick up a form for your child to fill in, writing info about 8 books s/he read and when you turn it back in, you'll get a coupon for a free book (there is a limited selection). I enjoy their huge selection, bargain books, and they have a little coffe shop as well.
PROS: Great selection, nice bargains, convenient location
CONS: none that I can think of
I've gone here once to have an eye exam and prescription glasses made. The exam went very well and I feel was thorough. The selection for glasses that were in their ad was very limited. Most were plastic frames with just a few metal frames for the ad price. The glasses are attractive, but they're the worst fitting glasses I've ever had. I've gone back to get them adjusted but it hasn't really helped much. I guess you get what you pay for. The time it took to get an appointment and then the glasses was reasonable.
PROS: Inexpensive frames and lenses
CONS: Small selection of frames to go with ad price
