I stayed at this hotel back in June 2005 for a wedding. There was nothing horribly wrong with this hotel but there wasn't anything really nice either. I was mortified to find they kept the containers of coffee sitting on the floor so when the current one was empty, they could just swamp them out. The one elevator may have been the slowest elevator ever made. The third floor (which we stayed in) doesn't have AC in the hallways which when it's 90+ degree heat is a huge inconvenience.
Overall, unless you are part of the Hilton Family and are looking to get your points and miles, I would not recommend this hotel.
I stayed at this hotel with my fiancee in Aug 2005. What a wonderful experience. The hotel is under heavy renovations but you never once felted inconvenienced because of it. The hotel is gorgeously designed with a very modern look. The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. It was centrally located to many of NYC wonderful attractions as well as the subway line. The only downside to this hotel is it sits on a very busy street by the fire station and the building does not keep out many of the cities sounds. Other than that, this hotel is a perfect choice for NYC travelers.
I stayed at this hotel in Aug 2005. The hotel is squashed in middle of commerical busy street but once you step into the hotel, you forget about everything else. The hotel makes the best out of the tiny space. Each floor only holding about 8 guest rooms. The rooms were great -- again for the typical small NYC space. The beds were fabulous. The provided cookies in the evening and provided their coffee, juice, iced tea, lemonade, and cappuccinos throughout the entire day. The staff members were very helpful and friendly with giving dining recommendations for anywhere in NYC -- not just the area.
The only two downside I had about this hotel is: 1. The breakfast area was not staffed well and many of the items were not replaced when empty and 2. if you would go a couple blocks away, it turned into not the nicest area. However, if you go a couple blocks the other way, you are right by the Empire State Building, Madison Square Gardens, Macy's, etc.
This hotel was just converted over to a Hampton Inn and my fiancee and I stayed there when it was just 2 weeks "old." We were able to get an early check-in and our bags were brought up to our room by the nicest guy ever! We entered our room to find one of the nicest Hampton Inns I've ever encountered (and I've stayed at TONS!!). The breakfast in the morning was great and staffed very well. The lobby is decorated well. The only downsides we experienced were the room was missing some of it's basic items (no clock, no soap). We requested a clock and one never showed up. When we inquired again, they said they could provide one possibly tomorrow (which would have been too late for us).
Overall, I would definately recommend this hotel to anyone going to NYC.
I pretty much always stay at Hampton b/c they are consistent in quality and service. This Hampton Inn is no exception. Nothing about this hotel's appearance makes it stand out (if anything some of it needs to be updated!) but their service does. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful in my every request. I would definitely recommend this hotel to others.
My fiancee and I went this past July. There were tons of children around who all appeared to be having a great time. As adults who have been to other zoos, we quickly discovered there was nothing great about this zoo. You can tell the zoo is older and in dire need of a facelift and extra money.
