My sister had her wedding reception at the Holiday Inn in New Cumberland last September, so I experienced both their catering and room accomodations. My 10 year high school reunion was also held here. The hotel is conveniently located just off the Limkiln Road exit of I-83 and the Harrisburg West exit of the Pennyslvania Turnpike. The hotel is in really nice shape, and the indoor pool is used year round. The wedding reception was nice - the catered food was excellent, as was the service. A big bonus is the English pub restaurant located right on-site, the Elephant and Castle.
Family owned and operated since 1959, the Virginia Nut Shop is well known for its high quality hand-prepared nuts. They are most famous for "Blisters"- a special home-style peanut with a rich old-fashioned flavor, cooked in 100% cholesterol-free peanut oil. They are unique taste experience! All of their nuts are hand-prepared in 100% peanut oil and are made to order. Most are available either salted or unsalted. They guarantee their quality and freshness. You can watch the nuts being prepared right in the store.
Jukebox Hits is Kraig Nace of Duncannon. We hired him to DJ our wedding reception a few years ago, and he was the DJ for my husband's last high school class reunion. Kraig is a younger guy, very professional, but not stuff in that wedding DJ stereotype. He will work with you to personalize you music and atmosphere for your special event. He provides you with all his materials and music choices before scheduling a face to face meeting to discuss your event. We cannot say enough about how wonderful he is. His prices are very reasonable, as well. I've recommended him to a few other people getting married, but he was already booked on their days.
Essis & Sons is located along Route 22 in Lower Paxton Township. It's an established flooring business, been at its current location for years. We purchased carpeting from them a couple of years ago. They have a great selection of types and price ranges of carpeting, as well as all sorts of other types of flooring. We opted to use their carpet installers, too, and they did an excellent job on installation. We'll buy from them again next time we're in the market for flooring.
Located in the Colonial Park Mall near the food court, Cutler Camera is a great place to get film developed and shop for camera/photography supplies. I bought a great Pentax 33mm camera there a few years ago because I was more comfortable talking to an experienced photography expert about what camera was best for me over some high school kid at Circuit City. Camera prices don't really vary that much store to store, so you'll pay about the same here as elsewhere. They carry all kinds of camera accessories, too.
Located on the main drag in downtown Mechanicsburg is the shoe store called Just Clogs. It has been there ever since I can remember. "Clogs" is a relative term anymore, the clogs that they sell go beyond what I normally think of when someone talks about "clogs". They have sandal clogs, flipflop clogs, clog-clogs, dress shoe looking clogs, etc. My co-worker has foot problems and swears by the clogs she buys here. It's an interesting store.
A beautiful place to wonder around.... If you have never been, take some time to visit Hershey Gardens. Only open the end of March - October, the 23 acre gardens are spectacular and immacuately maintained. Admission is $7 for adults, $6.50 for seniors, $4 for children and under 2 are free. There's also a butterfly house that both adults and children find fascinating. They recently added a children's garden that contains 30 themed gardens with whimsical characters.
Located in The Shops At Mount Hill on Colonial Road near the intersection with Colonial Road, The Garden Path is a wonder place to find that perfect gift for someone special in your life. They put together beautiful bouquets and arrangements and offer a delivery service. They also sell a variety of beautiful plants. They also put together wonderful gift baskets of gourmet food for that special person. Their products tend to be a little pricier than their competitors, but you are getting quality for your money.
