AS OF 11/27/05 at 11:30AM, Regular 87 Octane priced at $2.29!! Lowest price in my area!! This station is right on the corner of Union Turnpike and Springfield Blvd in Bayside just west of the Grand Central and the Cross Island. Six pumps get you in and out fast, although I did have to wait a few minutes since they have such low pricing and clearly people know about it. All pumps are self-serve. Since the station is on a side road, it is pretty easy to manuver in and out of the lot. Location has a mechanic on-site and a small snack shop. Swipe your card at the pump for fastest service.
Dr. Federbush has been my General Practitioner for over 10 years. Like most offices, his is very busy...the average wait time in my experience is at least 1 hour after your appointment time, so plan accordingly. His practice is not always accepting new patients, but if you need a primary care physician, I suggest your try him out. Whenever I have had an emergency, they squeeze me right in the same day...not many offices will do that. Referals are never a problem if there is a medical need and they are easy to work with in terms of insurance and co-pays. The only reason I give a 4 instead of a 5 is because calling the office is never a quick process (always put on hold at least several minutes) and often times it seem like all they are trying to do is get you to call back later instead of addressing your issue, but I suppose that is a function of the workload. The phone issues do not speak to the office staffs' personality...everyone is very pleasant.
Located in the Broadway Mall near the Ikea entrance...head up the stairs near the food court. This is a nice theater that is pretty quiet during the week in the evenings. Theaters have always been clean, and you do not have your typical teenager gatherings in the lobby like other theaters. Lines can get a bit long, so I suggest picking up your tickets early, or use the kiosk to the left of the ticket counter. If you have the Long Island Entertainment Book, this theater takes the National Amusements coupons, which brings the ticket price down to $6 a person!
This place is a mad house! Lines can be long, the food is expensive, and the theaters are nothing special. The few times I have been there, I do not recall the place being to clean either. Parking is okay (huge lot) but expect to walk a fair distance to the entrance. The clientel is a bit shady in the late evening hours, so I am not sure I would recommend bringing young children to a late night, weekend movie. The UA across the street is a much better choice if they are playing your movie.
This is one of the nicer theaters I have been to on the island. It is always clean, tends to have movies the larger theaters are not showing, and the seating is more of what one would hope for in a movie theater than what is typically encounters (elevation, comfort, size). The parking at this location is pretty rough. Much of it has to do with sharing the front parking lot with a Starbucks. The rear lot is not much better, so try to make it for an early showing before or near dinner time, especially if it is a weekend.
This repair shop operates out of the Shell Station at the corner of 25A and Middle Neck Road. I have brought both of my cars to this repair shop for basic service like oil changes, inspections, fuel filters, and tires. Pricing is fair, and the owner appears to to honest (I am basing this on the fact he has never tried to sell me a service I did not specifically request). The station itself is pretty busy, but I have always had my car back by mid to late morning when I leave it on a Friday night for them to work on Saturday morning. If you have used them before, watch your mailbox for a postcard for an $18.95 oil change w/ free tire rotation.
I have been to a fair share of small paint stores and this one is my favorite. All the guys were helpful and patient. The service was fast, even though I got a few custom colors, I was still in and out in 10 minutes on a weekday morning. Pricing is average to below average for paint; I did not really price the supplies. Keep a look out for $3 off Benajmin Moore gallons in your ValuPak coupon mailers. If you have never been here before, it is easy to miss, so drive slow...it is a small building on a corner. Parking on the main road is hard to come by, so park on the side road.
Willis Paints has everything you might need to do it yourself, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that the prices on supplies like brushes, tapes, drop cloths, etc. were cheaper than Home Depot or Lowes. The store is pretty busy on a weekday morning, mainly with professional painter traffic. It does appear they have a design center attached that is better equiped to deal with the typical do-it-yourselfer. Parking is not great, even though there is a small private lot. I suggest parking on a side street. If you are offended by the presence of day-laborers, this is not the area for you to shop in, as Willis Paints appears to be a gathering spot for this activity.
This is your typical full service wash during the day, but in the evening transforms into an "exterior only" wash. The cost is only $5, plus whatever you may choose to leave as a tip. I use this place pretty regularly and have been happy so far. They do a good job drying the car in general, and an excellent job with the interior and windows when you get a full service wash. Beware: the line can be pretty long on a weekend morning, or an early evening for the $5 exterior. Look for coupons in the Pennysaver!
This is the best barber I have ever encountered. All the guys are equally capable of giving a great haircut. Friendly conversation is never lacking...I have never left there disappointed with my hair, and always leave in a better mood then when I entered. A men's cut is about $14, which is below average for the area. The place was just remodeled since they just moved to this location, so the place is very clean.
