Pizza Hut

Houston, TX Pizza Restaurants 09/05/05: 'Average pizza in medical center'

Pizza Hut is a national chain that provides a particular style of pizza. This is comforting to many ppl, especially travelers, because they know what type and style of food they will be getting. There is no inside dining, and there is no drive thru. Thus, if you order a pizza for pick up, you will have to park and go inside to pick it up. Surrounding areas not the safest.

PROS:
CONS: no drive thru, no inside dining, average prices

New York Pizzeria

Houston, TX Pizza Restaurants 09/05/05: 'Unique food'

I've eaten here a few times, and each time, I like getting something different. This place has some of the most unique types of pizzas, and so far, each of them have been quite good. I recommend trying a variety of their menu offerings to get the full experience. Their prices are pretty average, but the portion of food served is better than most.

PROS: unique pizzas
CONS: surrounding area

Villa Roma Pizza

Houston, TX Pizza Restaurants 09/05/05: 'Good prices and food'

This is pretty good place to get some Italian food around the medical center area. It is a rather small place overall, so dining in is not usually the best option. However, the food is pretty good, and there is a pretty large variety of food that is offerred on the menu. This place also serves pasta, salads, bread sticks/ cheeze sticks along with a variety of pizzas

PROS: variety of food
CONS: size of restuarant, average prices

Med Center Shell

Houston, TX Gas Stations 09/05/05: 'Good Gas Station'

Good place to get gas overall. This gas station has some of the best prices I've noticed in the medical center, but these prices are intermittent and occasional. The service is good overall, and the selection in the convenient store is pretty good for sodas and other drinks, but there was a lack of sports drinks the last time I went. Overall a good place to get gas. However, it is not in the best part of town.

PROS: fair prices
CONS: surrounding area

Valerocorner Store

Houston, TX Gas Stations - Houston, TX Convenience Stores 09/05/05: 'Pretty fair prices'

This Diamond Shamrock gas station is a pretty good place to get gas. It is relatively close to both 610 and 288, and it provides some rather fair prices for gas (which is quite important now). The service inside the convenient store is also pretty good. However, the Diamond Shamrock may not be the safest place to be late at night, since the surrounding area is not the best or the safest.

PROS: fair prices, service
CONS: surrounding area

Olive Garden Italian Rstrnt

If you do not mind eating at a chain/ franchise type restaurant, this is one of the best places to eat Italian food around the Astrodome. It could be a great place to stop off for dinner or lunch before or after a game. The service is great, and the atomosphere is about the same as every other Olive Garden (which is pretty good overall).

PROS: food, service, atmosphere
CONS: surrounding area, chain restaurant

University Of Texas

The University of Texas Health Sciences Center Dental School is one of the best places to study dentistry in all of Texas. The school emphasizes excellence, and it provides a variety of options for students. There are a variety of professors who are quite well known in the field of dentistry. Being apart of the world's largest medical center is another huge advantage.

PROS: in the medical center, great professors
CONS: often quite large

Brian O'Neill's Restaurant

Houston, TX Restaurants 09/05/05: 'Good atmosphere and place to hang out'

Brian Oneill's is a very fun place to go for an evening out with friends and for happy hour. Occasionally, on Friday and Saturday nights, there are bands that play inside. During these nights, Brian Oneills usually charges cover (but this is quite minimal, usually $1-5 per person). There are a variety of drinks that can be ordered along with a rather diverse menu to order food from.

PROS: food, drinks, good atmosphere
CONS: occaional cover when bands play

Bakers Street Pub & Grill

Houston, TX Grill Restaurants 09/05/05: 'Best bar in the medical center'

Perhaps the most fun place to go for happy hour (or just to have a good time with friends on absolutely any night) in the medical center/ rice village area. The bar also has a variety of food off of a menu that can be ordered for lunch or dinner (and it's more than just snacks). Baker's Street is one of the unique bars that has both indoor and outdoor seating. The waitresses and waiters are also usually quite friendly.

PROS: best bar in the medical center/rice village area
CONS: becomes really crowded on Fri/Sat nights

Sherlock's Baker Street Pub

Houston, TX Bars & Clubs - Houston, TX Restaurants 09/05/05: 'Great place to hang out'

One of the best places to hang out on almost any night, although the best nights are usually Thursday, Friday, or Saturday. Occassionally, there are local bands that play. The specials are great, and happy hour is usually a blast! There are some arcade games and an air hockey table (for an additional cost). The only con is that there usually is no food aside from snacks that are served during happy hour.

PROS: atmosphere, great part of town, specials
CONS: no food to order
