Anjali Center-Performing Arts
Anjali dance school started by Ms.Ratna Kumar is the oldest Indian dance school in Houston. They teach Bharatnatyam and other Indian dance forms. I won't rate the school highly. It is past its glory years. These days with better Indian dance teachers and schools in Houston Anjali School is a disappointment. The quality of pure classical dance is less and the commitment of the teachers and the owner is less. There are better places to learn dance in Houston.
Zarposh India
A wonderful collection of exotic looking goods from India. They havea wide selection and intresting to just browse or invest in certain colorful pieces for your collection. The place looks like a remodelled house and is almost lost if you are not looking for it. Most of Rice village frequenters miss the place hence it is not so crowded and allows time for you to learn about the items before buying them.
Safari Imports
Located right in the middle of Rice village, this place transports you back to Africa. With wonderful, handicrafts from all over Africa, the place is the ideal place if you are looking for exotic gifts or treasures. They have a variety of footwear, clothes, vases, collectibles. There is something for every budget. Some of the fabulous pieces carry a big price tag, something we can't afford now... but we keep going back to the place for small knick nacks.
Trains & Planes Toys & Hobbies
If you have a hobby collection trains and planes, this is the place to go.. they have good collection of stuff but a bit cramped in space in my opinion. There just seems to be so much stuff every where you turn that you are afraid you might knock something off. and the prices in my opinion are too high... not the sort of place I might buy toys at.
Lot 8
I used to drive by this shop very often and the window display always intrigued me.. and decided to walk in... and was clearly amazed with the selection and collection they offer. It was like walking into a treasure trove.. The prices were reasonable and bet all mall prices and the service was real good. There were people to help me decide what suits me the best, the color and cut and then help me back to my car with my purchases, not something you find in the usual places.
Dual Electronics Inc
I visited this place to get my blender fixed. I had almost given up hope of getting my blender jar fixed. It was in a bad shape and few people attempted getting in right but failed. My last resort was this shop and they examined it and said they can attempt fixing it and said it might take a couple of days and the charge would be $10... and they called us in a day and said it was ready.. splendid service and never had problem with the blender again.. and the price is so resonable...
Ghoonghat
This is another small store tucked in a strip mall in Hillcroft... inside you'll find a variety of Indian clothing for women and kids.. salwars, skirts, lehangas etc are in plenty and are decently priced. The best thing I like about this shop is their jewellery collection. The rich jewellery will compliment any wear and come in abundance of colors and above all so resonably priced compared to the price you pay for a simple jewellery piece at a mall store... Worth the drive... would be better if they work to get off the musty odor from their store
Baubles & Beads Resale Boutiques
This is a small almost lost resale shop on Holcombe Blvd. Almost always crowd free so you can actually go through stuff and try them on... here you find brand names like Prada and other high end names..at a resonable price and ocassioanly you find yourself in the middle of a sale and you find plenty of super-duper bargains at that time.
Hot Shot Wok
I live in the apartment near this place and attimes when I get too lazy or tired to cook and don't feel like going out, I grab something quick from Hot Shot Wok. The Mom and Pop resturant/ takeout place has a mixture of stuff, chinese, gyros you name it they have it. A true blend of cuisines....They usually satify ny hunger... but tastewise they lack a bit. But the service is systematic, fast and friendly. They deliver free of charge for orders above $10 which makes the deal sweeter.
A place to go if you are real tired and hungry on a weekday
Hollywood Food Store
Located near Montrose this is a convinence store with the usual convinence store stuff, milk, cigars, emergency cooking stuff and bevrages. Prices a little on the higher side but a very clean and neat store unlike many of the convinence stores seen these days. They are run by the same people who run Hollywood resturant a couple of blocks inside. On the negative side, the shady characters who seem to be hanging around the shop sort of pschyes me off the place. There is always someone or other around the shop ...
