Although we have not built with Ryan, our first experience with home building was with them. We met with a sales rep in a model home before we were ready to buy, and she was the most informative salesperson we have ever dealt with in home sales. She knew we weren't going to buy, but she gave us so much information and spent time with us that I will always have a good opinion of Ryan homes. Barb gave us many tips about home buying and building and did it on her own behalf.
Ryan Homes has beautifully decorated models in each community and do a good job of hiring good sales people. I have a friend who works for Ryan, and she has always been very happy working there.
PROS: Great staff, personable salespeople, beautiful models, good builder
Our first home was a Ryland home and in a small community. Ryland builds a good starter home and are affordable in pricing. Our sales rep was pleasant and we didn't have any problems with the building of the house. They do not customize in any way than is already offered as an upgrade. The house did not have any major problems. We did have a crack in our foundation the first year, but the warranty area came out to fix it. They did not put the molding back correctly on the lineoleum when they left. It was a decent house, but I would go with another builder for a higher end home.
PROS: Affordable, good house for the money, responsive warranty dept.
CONS: Are not flexible in customization, wouldn't buy a higher end home
We shopped around a lot for different builders and finally settled on St Lawerence for the location and the quality of the home. Their homes are very pricey, but the workmanship is awesome. They really build a good quality home and outdo many other well known names, such as Shea or Dr. Horton. We hired an inspector before closing, and he found only minor problems.
When we did our 1-year walk-thru, there was hardly anything to fix, except for a few minor details, such as cracks from the settling of the house. Their warranty team went above and beyond our expectations. They found stuff we had not even noticed and cleaned our house from top to bottom after they were finished making repairs. They even adjusted our towels on the towel racks.
I wish I had great remarks for the sales rep, but he was awful! He was almost belligerent at times. He was very impersonal, did not possess good people skills, confrontational, and just seemed like he did not want to be bohered at all. We had to stay on top of them during the building of the home, and he would get it resolved, but it took a lot of arm twisting. We are still not totally happy with the home because they made a change to the exterior of the home and did not communicate it until we were getting ready to close. They would not agree to do it as they normally build the home. Very disappointing!
The floorplans are ok, and they don't have many models to go see. It seems like they just showcase their top sellers in every community, so we built our home sight unseen. We modified our floorplan, and they were good about building it the way we asked.
All in all, if I had to do it over again, I am happy with the home, but the building process made me an unhappy camper.
PROS: Great quality homes, great warranty service, flexibility in customization
CONS: Poor sales rep, late on deadlines, standard floorplans not as good
We worked with Jodi at the Design Center, and I cannot say enough good things about her. She was so wonderful to work with and did a fabulous job helping us. She took the time to make great suggestions and really seemed to be in it for us. She gave us some ideas and even told us if we should add something ourselves instead of through them because it was the best decision for us. She also helped us with color coordination and told us what other clients were choosing. Highly recommend!!
PROS: Great suggestions, awesome staff, helpful
I bought my dad a gift certificate here, and we played nine rounds. The staff is pleasant and instruct you on all the intricacies of the course. The golf carts have GPS on them, and it is so awesome. When you near the ninth hole, a menu comes up and you can place a food order on it. It will be ready by the time you reach the ninth hole, and you can just go pick it up. Very cool! The greens were nice, and there seems to be a lot of water. Only bad thing is that there are a lot of geese near the water holes.
PROS: Nice greens, challenging, great service, GPS on carts!
CONS: Geese congregating near water holes
I went to this place with a church group, and it was a blast. It has a fun atmosphere, convenient location, and a variety of pottery that you can choose to paint. There are many idea books and display items for inspiration. There are several white tile top tables and they have a good system for identifying colors. The tools are all handy. This is a great place to take your kids, have a girls night out, or even fun for a couple!
PROS: Good prices, nice atmosphere, convenient location, nice staff, organized
We've taken our cat here since he was a kitten. They are good people, the staff is friendly, and they really care about animals. They are good about follow-up and send you reminder cards when your pet needs to be taken back in for care. They are very personable and make you feel like they care about your pet.
PROS: Great staff, friendly
My husband and I went to this place twice, and had good experiences. The building is a renovated house and is kind of old. You walk into an office, they have you fill out some papers, and the masseuse takes you back into a big dark room. You are only separated by curtains and there is only room for a little massage bed in your space. You can hear other people talking, so it is very impersonal and can be annoying if you are trying to relax. It's only $30 for an hour, about half the price of other places, so you get what you pay for. All in all, it's a good deal.
PROS: Inexpensive, relaxing, good if you don't want to pay full price
CONS: Impersonal atmosphere
I've been to Hair Classics a few times to get my haircut, and it was an ok experience. Nothing mindblowing, and I liked my hair ok. Their stylists seem to be inexperienced. I asked my stylist for a certain cut, and she basically cut my hair the same way it already was in. I'd rather pay the same money and go to Carmen & Carmen.
PROS: Nice atmosphere, good service.
CONS: Average haircut
I normally go to Carmen & Carmen and pay $40 for a simple layered cut plus tip. A friend recommended the Aveda Institute to me, and her hair looked great, so I thought I'd try it out. I made an appointment for a month later since they were so booked. I found out that they sometimes take walk-ins if they have capacity. When I arrived, I was surprised at what a beautiful, upscale facility it is. I figured it would be kinda dumpy or school looking for the prices there. All these people were lined up and each stylist came to get the clients.
When mine came to get me, she asked me what I wanted done. She brought the instructor over and the instructor advised her on how to do my cut in order to get the results I wanted. I also decided to do partial highlights. They did a great job on my cut and highlights, and my bill was only $27! I think the cut was $12, and the highlights were $15. The only negative was that it took much longer than my regular appointments because the student is not as fast and neither do you want them to be, so they don't mess up!
I went back later to get my eyebrows waxed for $8, and that went well, too. After your appointment is over, the instructor comes over to ask you questions so that they can grade the student. I highly recommend going!
PROS: Inexpensive for high quality cut, great service, upscale environment
CONS: Instructor may have to advise a lot, can be time consuming
