Zao Island
This place has changed ownership many times over the years, but with all the changes one thing still remains the same, its really cool. The have a miniature golf course thats on the small side, but the themes they have set up at each hole are really profuse and lavish. It makes it so fun for the younger set. They also have added some really great activities for family to do together as well. They have go-cart racing, batting cages, video games, bumper cars, a 30 foot slide and even a driving range. And believe it or not there are actual live alligators that you can feed (with special purchased food) similar to the way youd fish, go early to make sure you catch them hungry, its so interesting to watch them eat.
Maid 4 You
This maid service offers several different cleaning options for residential and business customers. Their prices are competitive and Nicole (owner) does an incredibly thorough job with cleaning. Even if you cant afford to have your home professionally cleaned on a regular basis, its totally worth it to have her do a deep clean once.
Rubin's Restaurant
A local family owner eatery, Ruebens has been open as long as we can remember. They are the epitome of a greasy burger joint. When you want real good burgers and hot dogs, they make a Chicago dog to kill, this is a great and inexpensive place to stop. Everything is made fresh, no meat thats sat around for hours in a warmer.
Foremost Liquors
This local liquor store is run by the nicest people. They always have a great selection of drinks on the shelves and in the coolers. They just moved from a gross old building, to a brand new one, so it's more pleasant to shop their. Their prices arent as high as some of the other liquor stores around here; theyre pretty competitive with other stores that sell alcohol (ie. CVS Pharmacy, grocery store) making me a loyal customerand a drunk one ((just kidding!)
Party Liquors
I stopped by party liquors on the way to my fathers birthday party for a bottle of Crown Royal and the man working the counter went in the back to get me a gift pack that was hidden in a back isle, for the same price and came with the coolest pouring cradle that is normally priced at $20 alone. I would have never known about the gift pack if not for his kindness and that cradle made my gift the one my father loved most.
PROS: huge variety of alcohol
CONS: parking lot is difficult to access at a busy intersection
EZ Pak and Ship
This is a small shipping store owned by a local church deacon. Hes very nice and takes good care of his customers, even giving local business owners a 10% discount. The thing I like best about Rick is if he reuses shipping material from another package he doesnt charge since he didnt pay for it. He does sell boxes that he bought at fair prices and offers faxing and copies as well.
PROS:
CONS: The other employees are not friendly and at times are very rude.
Southlake Stables Inc
Southlake is a nice farm located right outside of Crown Point. They offer many great attractions in the summer and fall months, like horseback riding, hay rides, bonfires and pumpkin picking. They also have really great birthday party packages, that are a lot of fun, but really expensive. The owner is a rude, surly man and there are rumors around the area that they mistreat the horses, but Ive never seen anything like that and every time Ive visited has been pleasant.
Bailly Homestead/Chellberg Farm
This is a great place to hike and check out the scenery and the fantastically preserved old buildings. They host an annual Maple Sugar Festival early in the year that is awesome and tasty. The old farm house and barns have been turned into museums, depicting how life was lived back in the early 1900s, with the presenters in period costumes. Its a great way to check out life and learn about the area back then. It is impossible, however, to find much information on it on the internet as they dont have a website and other website with their name are only specific on one thing or another.
PROS:
CONS: hard to find info about them on the web
Lil' Red Barn The
This convenience store seems to have one of everything. Every time I run out of something I can just hop over, even though its way more expensive then it would be anywhere else. This place is right where no grocery stores or nothing else is, so convenience is key.
Sues Family Bakery & Catering
Sues make delicious cakes that they can customize to look like whatever you can imagine. You can even have them scan a picture and put it on the cake. Their cakes are pretty good but can be a little pricey and they usually need quite a notice to have one done since theyre a busy place.
