Fast Autoworks
I recently had my first experience with Fast Autoworks and I can tell you it was excellent in every way. One would know this when coming into their shop-- the walls are completely lined with awards, certificates and trophies that the guys all have won for their expertise in all areas of car care! Kevin and Tuan had my car up and running in very good time and for less than the original estimate! The car is running beautifully! How awesome to have found personable, knowledgeable, highly ethical mechanics! As soon as my car needs TLC again, I will rush her right over to these excellent gentlemen-- and so should you!
Nouri Rugs
What better way to make your home homier than with gorgeous, classic oriental rugs to color your floors? Especially here in Pasadena, where many of the homes are charming, older, even historic buildings, hardwood floors abound. How better to class them up here and there than with a bit of Persian style and artistry? Nouri has a fantastic selection and all of the sales people really know what they are talking about here-- they can help you choose the rug that best suits you, your lifestyle and your home. Even if you're not in the market now for such a piece, stop on in and let your mind wander to the possibilities of putting on the dog, Turkish style.
Canterbury Records
This record shop, independently owned and operated, is a welcome blessing in the sea of corporate everywheres. As any old record store MUST be in order to be authentic, it is musty and dusty but EXCELLENT. I guess what makes this place stand out so clearly and continue to thrive is that the staff here know absolutlely everything about music. Obscure stuff. Stuff you thought you were the only one who knew about. They know more. They probably even know the band and hang out with them. Maybe if you shop here enough they'll let you come too. Amazing jazz and classical sections. A must must must.
Knight Cleaners
This full-service cleaner surpasses other cleaners in the area in excellence of customer service. While it is often hard to find much difference in cleaners, a shirt is a shirt is a shirt, as it were, unless the service is horrible or they wreck something of yours, it's hard to prefer one over another. Not so at Knight Cleaners. These people are lovely and professional and you will feel even cleaner from wearing clothes touched by such kind and capable hands!!
Futon City
This place is kinda out there, but well well well worth it. It is really small, but positively packed to the gills with futons of all sizes and thicknesses, every type of cover you could possibly want to go with any decor from solid plain jane to wicked animal prints and funky spirals. What was most impressive to me, however, was the sales people's kindness and assistance in finding what would be the best fit for you. It really wasn't about the money-- they want you to have the best to fit your needs. Such service is a rarity (unfortunately) these days. And their prices were very reasonable, to boot! Highly recommended!
Mattress Gallery
When I first moved out here I was looking to find a reasonable starter set that would be comfortable, not entirely too hideous and not overly-priced. The first thing I noticed here was that the service wasn't so hot. Perhaps being the student type I was at the time I didn't look to them to be a serious customer-- which is baloney anyway, in my view. Still, they had a fair selection, especially for how centrally-located the store is (just blocks from Old Town). The prices were okay too-- I just get really turned off when no one even asks if you want help in a store, especially with more pricey items.
Essence of Living
This excellent furntiure shop let's your creative juices flow, Gone are the days of just buying it right out of the box. Take your brainy brain down to Essence and let it roam. Should you go for the Hemingway, exotic safari look rumored to be favored by Brad Pitt? Or would you prefer some baby-soft leather, new but seemingly worn to grace your home with sophisticated chic? Whatever your fancy, these people are the experts at making your vision a reality-- one you can get all cozy on, too!
Julienne
What to do when you're having a dinner party or a luncheon and want to knock everyone's socks off? Easy breezy. Just zip on over to Julienne's Fine Foods-- it's the little shop right next to the famous restaurant of the same name. Nearly all of the lovely salads and dishes that they serve in the fancy schmancy resto are available for sale here, along with their luscious deserts and nummy chocolate truffles. They also have lovely teas and gouremt coffees and a few gifty items too (party favors, perhaps?) I guess the real question becomes... should you tell?
Impromptu
This charming little gift shop has something for everyone, but it seems to particularly focus on the needs and wants of the designer helicopter parent. It has lovely clothes for both adults and kids, very classy with prices to match. you can find deals here, if you look closely-- and your hard work won't be rewarded as this lovely shop is absolutely rife with gems!
Psychic Eye Book Shops
How cute is this place! Itis so wonderful to be able to go in to a fucnky weird neato bookshop that smells of incense and various lotions and potions, that sparkles with brass gargoyle statues and crystal balls, and then to pop into a secret room in the back for a private reading indulgence. Even if you don't beleive, what a hoot.
