Bella hair studio was off my radar until recently. With several of the staff at Nuovo leaving to assume stations a Bella, chances are if you liked your services at Nuovo, now you'll be at Bella. I go to get my nails done and love Mary! She is the best around. For a great price you get a wonderful mani and pedi! It's a pleasant shop and while a slight change from Nuovo it's still really cute. I had Mary do my nails before my wedding too, and will keep going back to her. I definitely recommend!!
Monty's is a Friday night occurrence for my family....literally! We go every Friday night, sit in a booth by the bar and have Barbara as our waitress. The menu is standard with their specialty being steak, which is what I'd stick to. The prices are reasonable ranging from $22 to $35 for a steak. But the best part are the mixed drinks....that is if you like less mix and more drink. They mak'em stiff so watch out. The crowd tends to be older (45+), but it's a great place for people watching. Plus it's an old Pasadena Tradition, don't miss it!
Rubinos is right next to the Alberstons and is a great small place to get a pizza. I know there are other favorite pizza places on the penninsula, but this one tops them all in my book. It's cheap, you can get pizza by the slice and they have great salads. I really like their antipasto salad, but be sure to ask for double-meat or you'll get suck with only a couple pepperonis. The owners are really nice and it's pretty quick. I definitely recommend!!
The "2-Dub" as we call it is a staple to Penninsula living if you are on 9th street or lower. It's a hole-in-the-wall grocery store that saves the lives of the Penninsula residents who can't get off Balboa Blvd. in the summer. It's an easy place to ride down to stock up on small items to get you through the weekend. I really recommend it for dry goods or alcohol. I wouldn't go if you need produce or anything fresh. It by no means replaces the Alberstons on 31st, but it does supplement some needs nicely. There might be dust on some of the products, but it's cheap and easy and a staple to my summers.
While Opah's food is delicious and a nice selection of mediterranean fare.....the crowd is too hard to deal with. My husband and I went the other night and had to leave before getting a table, becuase it was too crowded! The martinis are definitely an attraction, since they have such a large selection, but it's not worth it to me. A restaurant should separate the bar and dining so that two crowds can co-exist, but the bar crowd is practically on top of the diners, and doesn't lend itself for a relaxing dinner. It's a scene, so be ready.
Pasadena Pet Grooming is where we have always taken our family dog....a Pug, who is not easy to groom. The staff at Pasadena PG is so nice and they really take their time, not only to do a great job, but also so it's easy on the pets. It's a friendly place to visit and its somewhere we feel good about taking our dog. The prices are reasonable, but it's just always been a good experience, which is why we continue to return. They know our dog by name now which says a lot and always makes us feel really welcome. I definitely recommend!
I've been going to Calico Corners for as long as I can remember....aka about 15 years. This store has a wide selection of quality fabrics. The only criticizism I have are the prices, which tend to run high. However, the quality is great and they have a nice selection of all textures and styles. This store, I'd say, is mostly targeted at fabrics for home decorating as opposed to clothing. They can even upholster furniture, create pillows or create window treatments for you. It might be cheaper to have someone else do it, but it's nice to have the option.
Brea TV has been around for years, and the reason is their staff! Buying a TV can be so confusing with all the deals, brands and types out there. Brea TV has an honest staff that will genuinely advise you through your buying process. My husband's family got me turned onto it and now I'm a believer. I didn't think there could be that much of a difference, but I was wrong. They have a nice selection of the latest TVs, but I just like knowing that I'm getting sincere advice no matter what.
I went into the White Dress, and though small found everything I was looking for. The staff is incredibly helpful and pleasant, which is important when shopping for wedding dresses. I was also surpised at the selection of bridesmaids dresses in the store also. Newport Beach has tons of Bridal shops, but this one you shouldn't pass up. The prices are in line for the types of dresses they have, but first and foremost it's a great shopping experience which makes it all the better.
My boss used Carsdirect to purchase his new car, and had nothing but great things to say. It's a pleasant experience with their extensive and easy -to-navigate website. Plus, when you speak with a customer service rep it's someone that specializes in the car you are interested in! It's not someone that's placing all kinds of cars, so you have someone helping you that really knows your type of car and the dealerships around your area. Plus, you don't have to deal with all the haggling and paperwork. The majority of it is done when you walk in to pick up your car. I'm definitely buying from them the next time I need a new or used car.
