Golden Tee Golfland
Golden Tee Golfland is a good place to go with the family because the staff there are friendly and helpful. The facilities are pretty nice for how much you are paying, and it is a good choice to go to for a cheaper, relaxing day. It is also conveniently located. The only thing I have complaints about is the questionable policy regarding child pricing and fees for lost balls.
Fillmore Florist
This is a good business because the owner is very friendly and attentive. The prices are very good for the quality of flowers that they have, and the wide variety and selection make gifts from this florist a good choice for any occasion. This is highly recommended for anniversaries or Valentine's Day gifts.
kamalaspa
Kamalaspa is a very well run spa with an Indian theme. Both the front desk and the masseuse that I visited were very professional. The 60 min massage cost me $125 (with gratuity), so I would not go there often, but the overall environment, with the peaceful music and beautiful artwork decorating the walls is a pampering experience. The spa is also very convenient, as it is literally located on Union Square.
Lee Shirley - Nob Hill Dental
I wouldn't recommend Danny Wong in a search for a personal dentist. He staffs his office with young Asian females who he spends all day flirting with, and they in turn do nothing much but gossip and giggle all day. Furthermore, he does a haphazard job while working on teeth, not being very careful and working in a hurry to get the patient out of the office as quick as possible. The tv next to the dentists' chair is constantly on...frequently he watches tv while working on teeth. While I was there he spent the whole time watching and talking about stocks!
Kaiser Permanente Health Care
Kaiser is a bad institution if you need health care, and need to reach someone. First of all, you can never get an appointment when you need it...there are so many people that there is a wait for everything, and since people are hurt and waiting, they are very upset and unhappy. There is actually no direct phone line or email that you can reach your physician at! One has to go through the annoying phone tree and "leave a message" with someone who has no idea what you are talking about. I would also highly NOT recommend Dr. Claire Grigeaux of the Geary Kaiser as your PCP...she is very uncaring and has no idea what she is doing. She diagnosed me in a way that I could have diagnosed myself using the Internet!
Ymca
I love the Embarcadero YMCA for many reasons. It is a great facility with all the amenities as the "fancy" gyms, maybe even more, but at a great price and without the attitude and pretense of the other gyms. They do not try to "sell" you, and will not solicit/call you continuously if you give them your information and do not join the gym. Furthermore, need I mention the countless classes, the indoor pool, and the terrific Fitlinxx system that tracks your progress? A great gym!
University of California Berkeley
Berkeley is a highly respected institution, with a focus/emphasis on theory and learning. A student from Berkeley does not learn as much practice, but learns how to think. It is also the best institution around for the cost...much much cheaper than a private institution for Californians. However, faculty are aloof and care more for their research than for the well being of their students, especially undergrads. Also, the faculty-student ratio is too high, resulting in almost no face to face contact with students. I would still highly recommend this institution, though, keeping in mind that this is a PUBLIC and not private institution.
Alias
I really like the ZipRealty site and search functionality. Pretty much every single property in the area is easy to find. It is also nice that they send out emails of new properties based on saved searches. However, the agents themselves are too pushy, and I dislike how to even find out about an open house, one has to go through the agent. Furthermore, one agent handles one person's account, but each agent has a different area that they manage, which does not work for one who is looking for property spanning multiple areas. I would recommend the site but skip the agents.
Millbrae Hair Salon
I highly recommend Millbrae Hair Salon because of the stylist, Vincent, who works there. It is easy to make appointments with him by phone, and once you actually get to the salon, there is never a long wait. The service is good and the staff is friendly, and the haircuts always turn out consistent. You will not get any scary surprises here. It's as simple as letting him know what you want, and he will take his time and carefully do his job. The cost is also quite good for a salon - only $20 for haircut (for females, males are cheaper). I would recommend this place for someone who just wants a trim or the same style as before.
Rainbow Cleaners & Laundry
I like Rainbow Cleaners because of the convenient location; it is very close to the heart of SF Financial District, which makes it easier to go to and from there from work. I dislike this business because they advertised $1 dry cleaning for shirts...then when I got the bill, it was $3/shirt! I asked what the reason was, and she, in an accent that made it hard to understand her, told me that it was because the "shirt was different and had to be hand ironed". It was an ordinary button down work shirt! Given this, it was not a very cheap place at all. I would not recommend it, unless you have a shirt that is not *special*.
