I have entrusted my daughter to the care of Laura Somerville, M.D., PhD at Allergy & Asthma Associates for the better part of the past decade. My daughter has rather severe asthma and allergies and has been under Dr. Somerville's care for these scary health issues for a long time now, and has gotten better. She is a specialist in pediatric asthma and allegies with a double doctorate, which is why I entrusted her with my daughter's medical care. I recently recommended that my sister take her two small children to Dr. Somerville for their severe, recurrent coughing and allergic-type reactions, and it turns out that their pediatrician has been repeatedly misdiagnosing them for over a year, and treating them with antibiotics incorrectly. Dr. Somerville took over their care and thank God, my niece and nephew now are finally healthy. My poor niece was almost held back for a second year of kindergarten due to how much school she missed the year that she was misdiagnosed and mistreated by her pediatrician, but she has been illness-free for many months now, thanks to Dr. Somerville. We are very thankful for her!
I became a patient of Dr. Terry's in my late teens. I never had cavities until my late teens, so I never developed any of the usual childhood aversion to dental visits, but the thought of the needle and the drill and all that definitely gave me the heebie-jeebies as a young adult. Dr. Terry provides Sony Walkmans and laughing gas to take the edge off the less pleasant tasks, such as fillings, so I never had a bad experience.
Dr. Culpepper was my first dentist, from the time I sprouted teeth until the time I was 19. Now he is my children's dentist. The man is extraordinarily gentle and his demeanor is so relaxed and friendly that any nervousness is quickly disspelled. The staff are all very friendly too, and they handle all the insurance billing so I don't have to bother with it. The office schedule runs very smoothly, and we walk in and walk out with no wait and no hassles. It's a great thing to actually look forward to going to the dentist!
We love Kelley's Country Cookin! They have the yummiest dinner rolls, served warm at your table with your meal, and the best chicken fried steak ever! They also have an enormous "Kelley's Burger" that will fill up two adults. They offer daily specials which includes one meat entree and three sides of veggies for a very modest $7. The food is as Southern as Southern food gets! They also offer a large breakfast menu and scrumptious-looking desserts, but we've always been too full to order dessert. One day, though, I'm going to order that homemade peach cobbler first!
On the last day of school, my children and I decided to be culinarily adventurous and went to Noodle King to order authentic Vietnamese pho, or noodle soup. My youngest child chickened out and ordered won ton soup, which was much different from the usual fast-food style of Chinese won ton soup, but the rest of us ordered different types of pho, and it was surprisingly good (except for the tripe, because I don't eat organs). We enjoyed the platter of fresh mung beans, basil, and cilantro that we put in our soup. It was very filling, and we will be having pho again soon. Minus the tripe.
My dad recommended this restaurant to us not for the authentic Vietname fare that Hoag My specializes in, but for their BBQ pork po-boys. He was right! We ordered 5 of their po-boys and two orders of their fresh, handmade Vietnamese spring rolls. The sandwiches were delicious, and were very inexpensive! I've never seen 8" toasty subs stuffed with pork and vegetables for only $2.50 each before! I personally did not care for the spring rolls but my husband and daughter, both of whom love Vietnamese food, said they were great. Overall, it was an excellent value for great toasty subs.
I can't say the name of this restaurant, but I like it! It's very casual, cozy, and family-oriented, and the food was great. The menu consists primarily of fried seafood and po-boys, with other Cajun favorites such as boudin, etouffee, dirty rice, and gumbo. For the less adventurous, they've got burgers and chicken wings. I would recommend it to friends and family, and look forward to my next visit there.
If you want incredible Cajun seafood, go to Boudreaux's NOW! They serve regular favorites like spicy fried crawfish tails and jumbo fried shrimp, and other Cajun delicacies like spicy fried alligator! There is always Cajun music playing and the restaurant is clean and comfortable. They have great frozen drink specials too, and the frozen hurricanes are especially good.
La Chine Chinese Restaurant has become one of our favorite restaurants. The owners are from China and their food is delicious. The wife runs the front of the restaurant and the husband is the chef. They have the most incredible Hot and Sour Soup I've ever tasted, which is what I get every time we eat there. They will also customize their recipes to suit your dietary needs.
China River has by far the largest and most varied selection of food on a buffet! There is nothing here I dislike, and they've recently added another additional bar where they serve Mexican food and American favorites like fried catfish and pizza. The entire restaurant is non-smoking on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, which we really appreciate. The service is good and the owner is always visible, checking to make sure everything is running smoothly. Even though the line is out the door on Sundays, it's always worth the wait. Great value for such a huge and varied selection of food!
