Amica Mutual Insurance Co
Both my parents and my family have used Amica for years for home and auto insurance. Rates are reasonable and customer service is consistent be it regarding a claim or terms of a contract. Amica was more than fair with my family when a hot water heater flooded an unheated garage full floor to ceiling with stuff. After a brief conversation with an adjuster about what we lost, we ended up being awarded more than we asked for in damages!
PROS: reasonable rates, fair payouts, excellent customer service
CONS: None
Carlson Wagonlit Travel
I was deeply disappointed with Carlson Wagonlit Travel when I used them to try and schedule corporate trips. First service was slow, putting me on hold for over an hour, then they stopped answering their phone. Eventually the corporation I worked for changed travel agents, but it was a nightmare trying to get through to Carlson Wagonlit, or to change travel plans last minute.
PROS: None
CONS: rotten corporate service
Yellow Cab
Yes a cab did show up when called, but the dispatcher didn't know the name of the major building I was calling from. The cab stank of urine inside and was missing interior trim and some door lock buttons. The driver was poorly groomed and I got out early and walked because frankly I didn't want the driver to know where I lived. I was told later those issues were fixed, but I won't be calling Yellow Cab again soon.
PROS: Show up
CONS: dirty, stinking cab
Seattle University
The Lemieux Library has been showing it's age for some time now and is about to undergo a major remodel. The 60's era floating spiral staircase from the front entrance to the library desk is uncomfortable. The study rooms, meeting rooms and bathrooms are all tired and in need of updating.
PROS: Has long met needs of SU Students, Undergoing Update
CONS: Tired, small, dated
Mercer Island Public Library
This large, completely remodeled library has everything you could want. Comfortable chairs, study cubes and tables, up to the minute computer access, marvelous periodical database with printing capabilities, copy machine, modern bathrooms, plenty of parking and a gracious helpful staff.
PROS: Has everything! Great location, ample parking, fantastic reference staff
CONS: None
Lake Hills Library
This smaller library has up to the minute public computer use, large individual bathrooms, easy to use self-check out kiosks and wonderfully helpful staff. No matter what the question is the research librarian will help you. Simple wooden tables and chairs make the most of the space and allow a place to read, study or write in peace.
PROS: Location, current computer access, helpful staff, self-checkout kiosks
CONS: Small
Seattle Sox
Great creativity and selection until you come to the issue of size. Any woman beyond a size nine shoe or a man beyond a size eight need bother to go inside. Do not believe the labels that say these socks will fit above the above mentioned sizes.
PROS: Great Creativity, Selection
CONS: Limited Sizes
Catholic Archdiocese of Seattle
The Chancery as the buildings that house the Catholic Archdiocese of Seattle are called, is a tired set of physical buildings with the exception of the Cathedral. Cramped rooms, dated carpet, windows, furniture and paint predominate. The public entrance is nice as is the wing with the Archbishop's office. The rest is a cobbled together collection of outdated and cast off bits and pieces used as long as possible and then some.
PROS: Main Entrance, Cathedral and Archbiships Offices Nice
CONS: Most of physical plant tired, old, outdated, ocassionally crumbling.
Immaculate Conception Church
Immaculate Conception Church has done a spectacular job in updating it's sanctuary from it's once limping 1910 origins. I especially like the Marian Grotto that acts like a side chapel. The sanctuary can hold a surprising number of people, but it still manages to feel intimate at weddings.
PROS: Vivid worship space, lovely Marian Grotto
CONS: None
Mercer Island United Methodist
This church is a cute, white clapboard church with a steeple that remains from a simpler time in Mercer Island's history. It is unassuming and looks like the country church it was once built to be. Landscaping is always immaculate and the inside is exactly what you would expect from the outside.
PROS: Unassuming, Classic Clapboard Style, Beautifully Maintained
CONS: None
